Coming after a convincing victory over West Ham at the Goodison, Everton looked to topple Conte’s men at the Bridge. It promised to be an intriguing battle with tactics prevailing on the pitch. Things changed drastically this very evening for the men from Merseyside. A horrifying half saw them concede three, gaping as mere spectators to Chelsea’s superb display and they looked like petty obstacles, almost non-existent allowing the freedom for the opposition in every department.
The second half was as catastrophic as the first. Midfield was flat hardly trying to win back anything while the defence was completely defused by the fire of the home side. Against such a strong attacking display, the defence was completely compressed and outplayed and to add to the humiliation, they conceded 5 and if not for some very good saves from Stekelenburg in the second half, the margin could have been wider. Here’s how the players of Everton have been rated after a woeful display.
Maarten Stekelenburg – 5/10
At fault along with the defence for Chelsea’s first two goals but pulled off important saves in the second half to keep the margin semi-respectable.
Seamus Coleman – 4/10
No way did he have to license to venture forward as he was penned back by Hazard throughout. He couldn’t deal with the flamboyant display of the Belgian and succumb to it.
Ashley Williams – 4.5/10
Torrid game as a whole but he made some fantastic challenges to prevent Costa from piling up goals.
Phil Jagielka – 3.5/10
Couldn’t match Costa’s pace or power. Horrible for a leading figure of the team.
Funes Mori – 4/10
Did not look comfortable throughout the game and was extremely clumsy.
