In a recent segment with French TV show Telefoot (via talkSPORT), Liverpool midfielder Fabinho welcomed his former AS Monaco teammate Kylian Mbappe to join Jurgen Klopp’s revolution at Anfield when he said, “Mbappe will have a Ballon d’Or before Neymar.
“I would like to welcome him to Liverpool.
“Sadio Mane deserved the [2019] Ballon d’Or. He’s the best player in Liverpool.”
However, Klopp has previously stated that it would be difficult to sign the Paris Saint-Germain star. In an interview back in November, the German manager said (via talkSPORT), “Buying this calibre of player is difficult. I don’t see any club at the moment who can buy Kylian Mbappe from PSG.
“I don’t see any club, that is how it is. And we are involved in the clubs that cannot do it. It is as easy as that.
“Okay, from a sporting point of view, there are not a lot of reasons to not sign him. What a player he is.
“But it is about the money of course. No chance. Absolutely no chance. Sorry for killing that story.”
Fabinho’s recent comments will excite a lot of Liverpool fans despite Klopp ruling out a potential move for Mbappe a few months ago. The French striker is currently one of the best forwards in world football so acquiring a player of his calibre will be a massive coup, even for the reigning European champions. The fact that Mbappe and the Merseyside club will soon share the same sponsor in Nike could add even more fuel to the speculation, but as it stands, there has been no developments regarding a potential move in the future.
Mbappe’s Prolific Season In French Football
Mbappe has enjoyed another sensational campaign for PSG after he put in numerous match-winning performances for them in the Ligue 1. The France international has registered 19 goals and 11 assists in 21 matches for Thomas Tuchel’s side this term across all competitions.
The 21-year-old has averaged 3.5 shots, 1.5 key passes and 2.2 dribbles per game for both club and country this season (stats via whoscored). The talented youngster has also earned 34 senior caps for the French national side and has scored 13 goals for his country in the process.
Should The Reds Make A Move For Mbappe?
Mbappe is one of the quickest players in European football and will be an excellent fit for Klopp’s style of play at Anfield. The French forward could make Liverpool’s front three even better if the Reds manage to land him in the coming years. Klopp should at least explore the possibility of a move if he has the financial resources available to pull off such a transfer as Mbappe is a generational talent who can help the Merseyside giants maintain their stranglehold in Europe as well as in domestic competitions.
