According to a recent report by Globo Esporte, Premier League outfit Everton are being linked with a summer move for their Brazilian namesake Everton Soares, who currently plies his trade for renowned club Gremio. The report suggests that the youngster has been on the Toffees’ radar since last summer and that his displays during the last Copa America triggered the interest from the Merseyside club.
The report claims that Carlo Ancelotti is keen to make attacking additions to his squad and that the Toffees have identified Everton Soares as their primary target for the summer. Despite the presence of Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin, the Italian tactician has expressed his desire to sign some reinforcements in the forward position. The recently completed loan deal with Crystal Palace for the services of Cenk Tosun is a further indication that the former Chelsea manager doesn’t completely trust the options that are currently at his disposal.
What Does Carlo Ancelotti See In Gremio’s Everton?
The youngster has grown into one of the most sought-after names in Brazilian football in recent years, and his performances for both club and country have warranted all the attention that he’s been getting from European clubs.
The 23-year-old is originally a left-winger by position but is more than capable of slotting in anywhere across the front-line and even at centre-forward. He is a lazy dribbler of the ball and can be a real threat in the opposition box, owing mainly to the unpredictability that he brings to the table.
Former of Fortaleza, the youngster has been in fine form for the last couple of seasons, and his performances have been so good that he was offered a new contract by Gremio that runs till 2023 just last October. The winger has scored 36 times in a 138 Brazilian Serie A appearances for Gremio and has even found the net ten times during the Copa Libertadores. Also, having made his national team debut at the end of 2018, the youngster has already earned 14 caps for Brazil and continues to impress at the international level as well.
Why Everton Must To All Out For Their Brazilian Namesake?
The Toffees struggles in front of goal look like a thing of the past now that they have a tactical mastermind in Carlo Ancelotti as the first-team coach. With that said though, the need for more attacking options is quite high at Everton, especially considering the number of players they currently have out injured.
While both big-money signings Jean-Philippe Gbamin and Andre Gomes are out injured, the likes of Alex Iwobi and Oumar Niasse have failed to deliver satisfactory results.
In Everton, the Toffees will be getting a proven attack-minded youngster, who due to his nationality, could form a special partnership with Richarlison upfront. Although the 23-year-old has a mammoth release clause embedded into his contract, the Toffees will do well to go all out to acquire the services of this prodigious Brazilian forward.
