Manchester United will entertain Norwich City at Old Trafford on Saturday hoping to bounce back from their 3-1 first-leg defeat at the hands of Manchester City in the EFL Cup semifinals in midweek. The Red Devils need to get some points on the board quickly if they are to stand a chance of catching up with fourth-placed Chelsea in the Premier League standings.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will set his side up in a 4-2-3-1 formation and will be forced to make some changes due to the injuries to some of his most valued players.
4-2-3-1 Manchester United Predicted Lineup To Face Norwich City
Defence
David De Gea will operate in goal for the Red Devils hoping to keep a clean sheet at the back versus the Canaries after shipping in three goals against the Citizens in midweek. Harry Maguire is out of action with a hip injury so Solskjaer will have no choice but to play Phil Jones alongside Victor Lindelof at the heart of the Man United backline.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka will continue to feature in the right-back position while Luke Shaw takes his place and operates on the other side as the left-back. The English defender is a doubt for this game but is expected to recover in time for this weekend’s clash versus Daniel Farke’s men.
The Mancunian outfit needs to improve their defensive record in the Premier League if they are to have any chance of competing for a top 4 place towards the business end of this campaign.
Midfield
Fred and Nemanja Matic are expected to anchor the Man United midfield as they look to provide adequate protection for the backline. They will also be responsible for feeding balls into the front players in the opposition half.
The talented trio of Marcus Rashford, Andreas Pereira and Daniel James will operate just ahead of them as part of Solskjaer’s attack. Rashford managed to score in the Manchester derby which should give him some confidence heading into this home encounter versus Norwich.
Tahith Chong and Angel Gomes are expected to make up the numbers on the bench but might get a chance to impress if required.
Attack
Anthony Martial will once again take up the responsibility of leading the charge up top. The French striker needs to get some confidence back, so this match versus the Canaries could be his golden opportunity to do that if he can find a way to make a difference by scoring a goal or two on Saturday.
