Manchester United are set to launch an ambitious bid for Atletico Madrid defender Diego Godin. The Red Devils will reportedly offer £30m for the lanky Uruguayan who has been one of the best defenders in the La Liga in recent seasons.
United have been struggling in this season especially defensively after two successive injury setbacks to Eric Bailly and Chris Smalling. Mourinho had to deploy two left footed players Marcos Rojo and Daley Blind in the heart of the United defence against Fenerbahce as he had no other player to choose from.
Phil Jones recently got back from injury and had a decent game against Swansea. Although Bailly is believed to be back in December but he will then join his nation Ivory Coast in the African Cup of Nations.
Godin is a very proven defender and could be a hit at old Trafford. The 30-year old is very commanding in the defence and has been with Atleti since 2010. The six feet one inch tall defender has won a number of coveted trophies including the La Liga in 2014 and The Europa League in 2012.
United will offer a hefty rise to his current salary what is believed to be around £70,000 a week.
