Manchester United will hardly get time to recover from their torrid loss against Fenerbahçe when they make the trip to the Liberty Stadium to face a Swansea City side who, truth be told, haven’t got a lot going for them either. It will be a match where Manchester United will certainly lord over the possession but a lack of an early goal will certainly give hope to Swansea to notch up their second upset of the season after the 2-2 draw against Chelsea.
Jose Mourinho’s troubles don’t look like going away anytime soon but with the pressure, the manager and the players are under, a touch-line ban might not be the worst occurrence in the world. United have looked bereft of ideas and desire in recent weeks and by the looks of it, there will be widespread changes next summer. But as of now this team is their best hope of salvaging the season.
Swansea themselves have won only once this campaign and although they are playing the Red Devils, whilst they are not in their best moment, the task might just be too steep.
Meanwhile, United might not get a chance to alter too much despite below par performances from a host of players, due to their injury status.
T40’s PREDICTED MANCHESTER UNITED LINE-UP AGAINST SWANSEA CITY (4-2-3-1)
DEFENCE
David de Gea will be in goal and although he conceded twice in yesterday, he couldn’t have done much different to prevent them. With Valencia injured, Mourinho might persist with Darmian although Fosu-Mensah provides an alternative. Smalling had picked up a knock but United will be hoping he recovers in time. He will be partnered by Blind, although the Dutch international had a shocker while defending. Luke Shaw is likely to keep his place at left-back. Rojo is another option.
MIDFIELD
Herrera is suspended while Pogba picked up a thigh injury which could well rule him out. This leaves Mourinho with a selection headache but we guess Carrick will get a recall along with Fellaini in the double pivot. Mourinho might utilise Rooney in in central midfield as well. Juan Mata has a good chance of appearing in the No.10 role after being amongst the substitutes against Fenerbahçe.
ATTACK
Martial has been poor but he is likely to get a chance if Mourinho decides to take a huge call up front. We are not sure if he will do it but it is high-time Rashford is given a chance up top with Ibrahimović rested. The Swede has been abysmal in the last month or so and a rest will do him good. Lingard or Mkhitaryan will be on the right-flank.
