Manchester United are finding themselves getting handicapped by all sorts of trouble for quite some time now. From being the unmatchable Premier League giants, the Red Devils are becoming the laugh of the town as they are being ridiculed week in and week out owing to their dismal and inconsistent performances. A 2-1 defeat away at Fenerbahçe in the Europa League last night was another stain thrown to the legacy which Sir Alex Ferguson had left behind and slowly but surely, it seems like the empire is collapsing despite spending a fortune already.
In spite of the French revolution that has swept the club lately in the shapes of Paul Pogba, Morgan Schneiderlin and Anthony Martial, the desperate urge to rope another asset from France is on the cards. It’s not unknown that the high levels of quality the Frenchmen offer to the Premier League is unparalleled, with Lucas Moura being a household name, we believe, should fall under the radar of José Mourinho who is assessing his targets for the January transfer window where some purchasing is probably going to be done by the gaffer.
Signed by Paris Saint-Germain for roughly around £38 million in 2012, the winger hadn’t lived up to the price tag until this season. Frankly speaking, his astuteness and shrewdness seemed questionable as he failed to impose himself as a riveting star that he was supposed to become at the French capital. However, the tides of time has shifted in his favour now as has finally lifted his veil and started to deliver on a regular basis for Unai Emery’s side.
The 24-year-old is menace for the opposition defence owing to his absolutely amazing dribbling, incredible burst of pace to effortlessly outpace his opponents, knows how to bury his chances and is a treat to watch when he offers his trickery on the tray. He lashes onto the defence and weaves through them to create not only goal scoring chances but scores himself as well.
Another aspect which might interest Manchester United is the Frenchman’s ability to play is a variety of positions such as in the no. 10 role, on either flank or behind the striker.
Emery has waved his magical spell and what we are witnessing an intriguing revival of Moura’s career. 7 goals and an assist for PSG so far this season out of his 15 appearances in all competition is a telling stat advocating his improvisation.
With a healthy pass accuracy of 84%, Moura has also created as many as 15 chances and has been quite prolific in terms of bustling down and rattling the defence. But more importantly, his finishing (which was questioned severely) has seen a boost which can be derived from the stat that he has had a shot accuracy of 61%.
It would be tough to take him away from the clutches of the French champions (remember the Paul Pogba case?!) who are finally reaping benefits from him. Moura is a staggering player and can change the complexity of the game on his own when he clicks, which is why he is still a wanted commodity.
Manchester United are in a dire need of a superstar in the attacking half and given that Moura also has the age factor on his side, he seems to be a viable target for the club whose legacy is crying to be restored.
