Frank Lampard’s Chelsea side suffered their third league defeat in four fixtures as they succumbed 3-1 against Duncan Ferguson’s newly inherited Everton team. The Blues were put on the back foot right from kick-off, thanks to a truly spirited display by the Toffees on the day. Although Mateo Kovacic scored his first-ever league goal today, the Blues weren’t able to pick up the three points.
Here are the Chelsea players rated in their defeat Vs Everton.
Kepa Arizzabalaga – 5
The Spaniard didn’t have a very good outing in between the sticks as it was his misplaced pass that led to the Toffees scoring their third goal on the night. Could’ve distributed better as well.
Reece James – 5.5
Although the youngster showed excellent attacking intent in the first half, he was utterly overrun by the Everton forwards in the second period. Could’ve done a better job at the back as well.
Andreas Christensen – 5.5
The centre-half wasn’t able to win any second balls on the night and struggled to get the ball out from the back as well. Should’ve been more composed as the Blues began to attack in the second half.
Kurt Zouma – 6
The Frenchman won a few headers at the back but was far from his best against a rampant Everton attack. He gave the ball away on multiple occasions and showed signs of fragility at times as well.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 4
The Spanish full-back looked entirely out of place in his left-back role and didn’t have any impact going forward either. The Blues’ need to find a proper left-back was highlighted even further.
Mateo Kovacic – 7
The Croatian, was once again, the Blues best player on the night, as he bagged his first-ever league goal with a beautiful strike as well. Controlled the movement of the ball whenever the Blues attacked.
N’Golo Kante – 5.5
The Frenchman didn’t have a good tie against the Toffees as everything he tried to do in the final third seemed to be going to waste. Needs to improve his first touch in midfield as well.
Willian – 5
The Brazilian wasn’t able to have any impact on the fixture whatsoever and didn’t even manage to get a shot on goal on the night. Struggled to make simple forward passes as well.
Mason Mount – 5.5
The youngster had a couple of opportunities to level the scoreline in the first half, but he was unable to find the killer touch tonight. Struggled to make the ball stick in the second period.
Christian Pulisic – 6
The American tried hard to make something happen for the Blues but was constantly pegged back by some determined Everton defending. The Toffees didn’t allow him any space either.
Tammy Abraham – 5.5
The English striker had a couple of chances to open the scoring for the Blues in the first half, but was unable to convert. He held the ball up but didn’t have his usual influence in the final third.
Substitutes
Callum Hudson-Odoi – 5
The youngster came on and tried to instil some energy, but didn’t have the impact he would’ve been hoping for.
Michy Batshuayi – NA
Didn’t have time to make an impact.
