According to the latest reports from Daily Star, Liverpool have been credited with an interest for Atalanta’s winger Dejan Kulusevski. However, their arch-rivals Manchester United have reportedly made the first move as it is believed that the Manchester heavyweights have tabled a £21m bid for the one time Sweden international.
The 19-year-old is currently on loan with Serie A outfit Parma and his performances this season have caught the attention of quite a few top clubs. Inter Milan and Juventus are also said to be in this mix to sign the Swedish ace. Liverpool had reportedly sent scouts to see Kulusevksi in action recently.
The winger currently has three goals and five assists in the Serie A this season. Kulusevski had joined Atalanta in 2016, and he has been pushing to break into their senior team. However, he was allowed to leave on loan in the summer, and Kulusevski has done well for Parma so far from the right flank.
The winger is known for his impressive work rate, pace and tenacity down the flanks. He is also showing that he can score and assist as well. This campaign so far has been the breakthrough season for him in the Serie A, and he does look like a promising talent. Kulusevski has played on the right flank as well as through the middle in an attacking midfield role.
Does Liverpool need a right-winger?
The Reds have Mohamed Salah at their disposal on the right who is one of the best in his position when on a song. Apart, from that, Klopp can call upon the services of Xherdan Shaqiri who recently impressed against Everton. Liverpool also relies on their player’s versatility and the likes of Sadio Mane and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain can also play on the right flank.
Among the young lot, Harvey Elliott seems to be an exceptional talent, and he too has been knocking on the door to break into the senior side. Hence, one might feel that Liverpool doesn’t really need a right-winger at the moment with so many options.
What should Klopp do?
Kulusevski is just having his first proper full season at the senior level. He is still a work in progress and might need some time to thrive in the Premier League. Liverpool should also have higher ambitions if they want to sign a new player. Therefore Klopp can afford to give Kulusevski a miss for now. However, the club should keep track of his development, and maybe they can move in for him in the future.
