Rangers are only behind on goal difference to Celtic in the Premiership table at the moment. The Glaswegian giants will take on high flying Aberdeen next in a midweek game at the Pittodrie Stadium. The Dons were one of the major thorns in Rangers’ path last season, and they would again look to make it difficult for an in-form Rangers side.
Gerrard will soon be managing the biggest game of his short career as his side will take on Celtic in the League Cup final in the coming weekend. However, he certainly can’t focus his attention towards that game yet with a tough away tie against Aberdeen coming up in midweek. The Dons have won four of their last five games, and they have managed to turn the tide after a slow start to the season. Hence, we could be in for a tight game.
Team News: Gerrard doesn’t have any major injury concerns as everyone is more or less fit and raring to go. Jordan Jones is going to be the only absentee as he is yet to regain his full fitness after suffering an injury in the Old Firm derby earlier this season. One might expect Gerrard to rest some of his key players with a Cup final looming on the horizon, but with a tight title race going on, we expect him to play a strong side.
Rangers Predicted Lineup vs Aberdeen
Formation (4-3-3)
Defence
Allan McGregor will once again start in goal for the Bears. It is quite clear now that Filip Helander is the first choice centre-back partner alongside Connor Goldson. Hence, we expect Gerrard to trust the duo again with fan favourite Nikola Katic having to miss out in the process.
Borna Barisic should feature at left-back. Club captain James Tavernier needs to pick up his game, and he is expected to start in his usual right-back slot.
Midfield
The experienced Steven Davis might be given a rest in this game, and Glen Kamara might play in a deeper role in midfield. Ryan Jack didn’t play in the match against Hearts at the weekend, so we expect him to be back in midfield. Joe Aribo will likely complete the midfield three.
Attack
Ryan Kent will be expected to start from the left, and the English winger seems to be hitting his peak just at the right time of the season. Greg Stewart impressed off the bench, and he could get a chance to start on the right. Alfredo Morelos should be preferred over Jermain Defoe. The Dons seem to be in a good run of form and Rangers will need to be at their best upfront if they are to score enough goals to get the win.
