According to Tuttomercatoweb, as cited by the Daily Star, Inter Milan are keeping tabs on Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. It is believed that Antonio Conte is a huge fan of the Arsenal star, whose current contract at the club expires at the end of next season.
That means the Gunners could run the risk of losing him next summer if they fail to tie him down to a new contract soon. In this article, we will discuss why Arsenal must keep hold of Aubameyang at any cost.
Aubameyang’s immense success in the Premier League
Aubameyang has emerged as one of the top strikers in the Premier League after arriving at the Emirates Stadium in January 2018. He had notably scored ten goals in his maiden season in the English top-flight, helping the club finish sixth in the league.
The following campaign, the ex-Borussia Dortmund star netted 22 goals – making him the joint top-scorer in the league alongside Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane. His contributions in front of goal were one of the few bright spots in an otherwise dire campaign for Arsenal as they once again missed out on UEFA Champions League qualification.
Even this season, when Arsenal have struggled in the Premier League, Auba has found the back of the net ten times in 14 matches. Hence, his presence in the team is invaluable as far as goal scoring is concerned.
Why Arsenal must keep hold of Aubameyang
Aubameyang has proved himself quite useful to the Arsenal attack despite the presence of Alexandre Lacazette. His ability to find himself in the right place at the right time makes the attack quite efficient.
Moreover, his pace and tenacity make the Gunners much more lethal on the counter-attack. And most importantly, he has the technical quality to combine with the likes of Lacazette and Mesut Ozil in the final third – making it difficult for the opposition to keep tabs on him.
From a sporting perspective, Aubameyang’s departure would create a huge void in the offensive department. And given how quickly he had managed to integrate himself into English football, it is going to be difficult finding a suitable replacement. Hence, it would only drag Arsenal into further mediocrity.
But at the same time, the north London giants are quite powerless, should Aubameyang reject a potential contract extension. A lot, however, could depend on how Arsenal fare during the second half of the campaign, knowing a Champions League finish could significantly boost the chances of them keeping hold of their attacking superstar.
