According to the latest reports from the Daily Record, Italian champions Juventus are eyeing up a move for Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara. The English Championship outfit Leeds United are also said to be in the mix and Rangers are reportedly valuing the midfielder at £8m.
Why Juventus being interested is surprising
It is indeed astonishing to see a club like Juventus being interested in a midfielder playing in the Scottish Premiership. Maurizio Sarri has got a plethora of midfield options to choose from as he has the likes of Miralem Pjanic, Sami Khedira, Emre Can, Aaron Ramsey, Blaise Matuidi, Adrien Rabiot and Rodrigo Bentancur at his disposal. Hence, the latest rumour of Juventus being interested in a midfielder is slightly surprising.
However, with a top club like Juve interested, it is a testament to Kamara’s talent who has managed to establish himself at the Ibrox. Even the word ‘bargain’ might not do justice to Rangers signing Kamara for a meagre amount of £50,000. It was nothing sort of a daylight robbery, and the Bears are now valuing the midfielder at £8m.
How do things stand at the moment?
Gerrard has indicated that he won’t sell his first-team players in January as they are in a close title race with Celtic and Kamara is a crucial player for them in midfield. However, it would test their resolve if a bid of £8-10m lands at their door in the winter transfer period.
Former Rangers striker Kris Boyd recently said that Rangers would sell Kamara in January as they would like to keep Morelos. Rangers recently posted a loss of just over £11m, so maybe Kamara could be sold for that kind of an amount to balance the books. However, the club’s new Sporting Director Ross Wilson has revealed that Rangers are under no financial pressure to sell players in January.
What should be Gerrard’s play?
The business and the playing side of a club needs to go hand in hand, but Rangers are currently going through a very critical season in recent memory. Stopping Celtic from winning nine Premiership titles in a row is going to be a big ask and Rangers will need quality and squad depth to challenge their main rivals.
Moreover, we believe that Rangers can get more money for Kamara in the summer of 2020. The midfielder is already doing well, and if he plays a stellar role and helps in delivering the title to the Gers, then Rangers can probably get a higher fee for the midfielder.
Not too forget that we will also have the Euros in 2020 and Finland have made it to the main tournament. A few good outings for his national side at a big stage could enhance his reputation further so Rangers might be sitting on a jackpot. Therefore the Bears should look to keep hold of Kamara until the end of this campaign.
