According to a recent report by Italian news outlet fcinternews.it, Premier League giants Manchester United are said to have begun talks with the agent of Barcelona midfielder Arturo Vidal, to consider the possibility of the Chilean making a switch to Old Trafford. It has been suggested that United chairman Ed Woodward has inside help on the task at hand and that he is more than capable of making this deal a reality.
The report claims that United have already contacted Fernando Felicevic over the transfer situation, as they look to strengthen the core of the team. Ed Woodward is said to already have an excellent working relationship with the Chilean’s agent, having worked with him over the deal that took Alexis Sanchez to the Serie A last summer.
What Is Arturo Vidal’s Current Situation At Barcelona?
The Chilean international has been out of favour at the Nou Camp for quite a while now, but for some reason, he’s still stuck around until this point. Having said in the past that he would reassess his options in December, a move away from Catalonia seems highly likely now, with only his eventual destination still remaining a mystery.
Having made the move to join the Catalan giants in the summer of 2018, the midfielder has gone on to make 66 overall appearances, for which he’s managed to pick up seven goals and eight assists. Despite having a decent record, the Chilean has fallen down the pecking order at Barcelona and is mostly seen making substitute appearances nowadays.
What Would Arturo Vidal Add To Manchester United?
The South American midfielder would walk into the starting lineup at some of the best teams in the world, considering just how much quality and composure he adds in the middle of the park. Naturally strong and a good leader, the tattooed Chilean was the main midfield commander during his stints at both Bayern Munich and Juventus before that.
Manchester United have been missing a player of that magnitude, having failed to replace Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini in the summer. He is a strong and combative midfielder, who operates out of a deep role but does like to get forward and take the odd attempt on target. He boasts a very powerful shot from outside the box with his right foot, and despite his ripe age of 32, can still be a proper bundle of energy in the middle of the park.
Do Manchester United Need To Sign Arturo Vidal?
Manchester United have suffered miserably in midfield this season, owing largely to the untimely injuries that have been picked up by Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay. Acquiring Vidal would quite literally be the best of both worlds for Ole, as he’d be getting an experienced head who can bring control and tenacity, while also being the force that drives the team forward. As things stand, United’s midfield looks very bleak and fragile, and the addition of Vidal would certainly go a long way in addressing that issue.
