Tuttosport had reported last week that Everton launched a €25m offer for Torino defender Armando Izzo earlier this summer. However, the Italian side were holding out for €40m, so the two clubs failed to reach an agreement for the defender’s transfer even though the Toffees had made the highest bid (via Tuttosport).
In an alternate universe, maybe the Merseyside outfit would have made a flying start to the Premier League campaign with Izzo in their first-team. However, in reality, the Blues are currently struggling to get favourable results in the English top-flight. A lot of Everton’s problems have stemmed from their inability to secure clean sheets at the back over the past few months.
Izzo’s Fabulous Form For Torino This Season
Izzo has made a promising start to this Serie A season after helping Torino climb to 11th place in the league standings. However, the 27-year-old has failed to keep things stable at the back as his side has shipped in 20 goals in 13 league matches thus far.
The Italian defensive ace has featured in 18 matches for the Serie A team this term, scoring three goals across all competitions. Izzo is averaging 1.5 tackles, 2.6 interceptions and 3.3 clearances per game in the top tier of Italy (stats via whoscored). He has also earned three international caps for the Italian national team so far.
What Will The Italian Defensive Ace Bring To Goodison Park?
Izzo is a physically dominant centre-back who can command his own penalty area with authority and conviction. He excels at intercepting the ball from the opposition due to his aggressive approach to the game. Furthermore, the Italy international can also make a few vital clearances for his side, and his defensive awareness is on par with the best centre-backs in Italy.
Should The Toffees Reignite Their Interest In Izzo?
Everton should undoubtedly rekindle their interest in recruiting the Serie A star as he could help them become a better defensive unit in the English top-flight. The Toffees need to make some quality acquisitions in the transfer market if they are to turn their fortunes around for the better in the coming years.
Izzo will not only add a lot of quality to the Everton backline but will also help them put up a proper challenge against the top teams in the Premier League.
