Barcelona will entertain Borussia Dortmund at the Nou Camp on Wednesday night. The Catalans can book a place into the knockout stages of the UEFA Champions League as the group winners if they manage to claim maximum points against their German opponents in midweek.
Ernesto Valverde might revert to a 4-3-3 formation, but he will be without the services of Gerard Pique who is suspended for this European encounter at Catalonia.
4-3-3 Barcelona Predicted Lineup To Face Borussia Dortmund
Defence
Marc Andre ter Stegen will retain his place in between the sticks for Barca despite failing to secure a clean sheet in his past four starts in the La Liga. Gerard Pique will miss out due to suspension while Clement Lenglet is injured so he won’t feature in midweek. Hence, Valverde might be forced to play Sergio Busquets as a makeshift centre-back alongside Samuel Umtiti at the heart of the Barcelona backline. The defensive duo will have to find a way to keep the Dortmund attacks at bay on Wednesday.
Moussa Wague might keep his place at right-back after he featured for the full 90 minutes versus Leganes last weekend. Junior Firpo will get the nod to operate in the left-back position as Jordi Alba and Nelson Semedo are both sidelined due to injury.
The Catalans have only conceded two goals in four group-stage matches in the Champions League so far. Hence, they will be expected to put in another dominant display at the Nou Camp in midweek.
Midfield
The home side might go with a midfield three of Ivan Rakitic, Arturo Vidal and Frenkie de Jong as Valverde looks to freshen things up at the centre of the park. All three midfielders will have to be at their best if they are to win the midfield battle against a tricky Dortmund team.
Sergi Roberto could be a part of the Barca bench and might come on to make an impact if required.
Attack
The front three of Antoine Griezmann, Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi will lead the charge for the La Liga leaders up top. Suarez managed to get himself on the scoresheet against Leganes so he would be confident heading into this European encounter versus Lucien Favre’s men.
Both Ousmane Dembele and Carles Perez will have to settle for a place on the bench.
