When Manchester United were scheduled to visit Bramall Lane to take on a stingy Sheffield United side, nobody would’ve expected a six-goal thriller. The game ended 3-3 with the Red Devils even squeezing in a rather speedy comeback into the ninety minutes. The Blades went two goals up early in the second half but were pegged back rapidly by three quick-fire Manchester United ones. Brandon Williams, Mason Greenwood and Marcus Rashford came up with the goods on the night, only to be shocked again in stoppage time by an Oliver McBurnie equaliser.
Here are the Manchester United players rated in their thrilling draw Vs Sheffield United.
David De Gea – 5
The Spaniard didn’t look too fazed by the Blades’ dominance in the opening minutes but soon caved. Although he was assured with his collection, the Spaniard could’ve done better with two of the goals.
Victor Lindelof – 5.5
The United centre-half struggled to maintain his position in the first half, as the Blades continued to pile on the pressure. Came back well in the second half though.
Harry Maguire – 5
The Englishman had a tough opening half at Bramall Lane, owing to the constant pressure from Lys Mousset’s direct runs into the box. Composed himself much better in the second half.
Phil Jones – 3
The Englishman had an absolute shocker in the first half, as he was continually being surpassed by good Sheffield build-up play. He was easily muscled off the ball prior to the Blades’ opener. Came off at half-time.
Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 6
The youngster did his defensive duties well but wasn’t able to have too much of an attacking influence for most of the match. Made much more headway in the second half though.
Andreas Pereira – 4
The midfielder struggled to have any kind of positive influence on the game, as he constantly stroked the ball from side to side. Offered little to no penetration and should be dropped from the team.
Fred – 4.5
Although the combative Brazilian did well to ease the pressure off the United back-line in the latter stages, he offered next to nothing in the first half, as the Blades’ onslaught progressed.
Brandon Williams – 6.5
The young full-back didn’t have a very good game down the left flank, as the Sheffield defenders afforded him no space. Took his goal superbly to set United on their way to a comeback.
Daniel James – 7
Easily the Red Devils’ best player on the night, the young speedster was a constant threat with his powerful running. He began to rock the Blades’ back-line in the second half with some brilliant play.
Marcus Rashford – 6.5
The striker was United’s best player for most of the match until the youngsters came on and stole the show. Although he got a goal, the Englishman definitely wasn’t at his best today.
Anthony Martial – 6
Unlike Rashford behind him, the Frenchman struggled to get into the game in the first half but showed up with some decent touches in the second. He was unhappy to be substituted.
Substitutes
Jesse Lingard – 5.5
The Englishman did well in circulating possession of the ball in the midfield, once United started to take control of the play. He was presented with a shooting opportunity from a distance but shanked it horribly wide.
Mason Greenwood – 7
The teenager was a revelation after coming on with his smart touches and overall play. Made an exceptional run to score United’s second and proved yet again that he deserves to start.
Axel Tuanzebe – 6
Came on into a defensive midfield position as United attempted to shut up shop once they got the lead. It didn’t work though as McBurnie popped up with an equaliser in stoppage time.
