According to the Bleacher Report (via the Daily Express), Liverpool will make a move to secure the services of RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner but only if he is willing to assume the duties of a back-up striker.
The same source has claimed that the Reds will consider bringing him to Merseyside if the German frontman agrees to play as an impact substitute, much like how Divock Origi operates at Anfield.
Werner’s Glorious Scoring Form In The Bundesliga
The 23-year-old has made a fantastic start to this campaign after putting in numerous goal-scoring performances for Leipzig so far. Werner has scored 15 goals and grabbed seven assists in 17 appearances for the Bundesliga outfit this term across all competitions. He is averaging 3.7 shots, 2.2 key passes and 1.6 dribbles per game in the German top-flight (stats via whoscored).
The Stuttgart-born striker has been a prolific goal-scorer in German football for the past few years and seems to be getting better with each season. He is an unforgiving finisher who has developed a reputation for scoring goals consistently at the highest level. Werner has also netted 11 goals in 28 appearances for the German national team thus far.
What Are The German Centre-Forward’s Best Attributes?
Werner is a lethal presence inside the opposition penalty area as he has a knack for finding space and creating some decent openings to score. He loves to run behind the opposition backline using his pace to dribble past players. The German international can also be quite unselfish in the final third as he is willing to pass the ball to his teammates if they are in a more advantageous position than him.
Werner will be an excellent fit for Jurgen Klopp’s style of play at Anfield. He has the stamina to chase defenders down when leading the high line of press in the opposition half. It is quite understandable why Liverpool cannot offer him regular first-team football at the moment.
Will Werner Be An Ideal Choice For The Reds?
Roberto Firmino has hit top form for the Reds this season and has done exceptionally well to get the best out of Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah. Therefore, Werner will have to be content with a place on Klopp’s bench if he wants to make a switch to join the European champions in January. If he is willing to accept a reserved role at Merseyside, then he will be a brilliant choice for the Premier League leaders.
