According to the latest reports from the Scottish Sun, Celtic are being seen as an ideal destination for Niklas Dorsch. The Hoops are said to be among several clubs who are looking to sign the German u-21 international. Dorsch currently plies his trade in the Bundesliga 2 for Heidenheim.
Dorsch is seen as a significant talent, but Heidenheim cannot demand an exorbitant fee for him as the midfielder has a buyout clause in his contract. Celtic, therefore, can sign him for a fee of £3.2m. The defensive midfielder had joined Bayern Munich when he was 14 in 2012. He went on to develop from there but only made one senior appearance for the Bundesliga heavyweights. However, it was a memorable one as he got himself on the scoresheet against Eintracht Frankfurt.
He moved on to Heidenheim in search of regular game time, and he has since established himself for the second division outfit. This season, the midfielder has played in 14 games in all competitions scoring one goal and assisting three goals.
What can Dorsch bring at Parkhead?
The German youth international might be a defensive midfielder primarily, but he plays a crucial role in creating chances for his side. He is more of a creator from deep areas than a midfield disruptor. Dorsch has sharp feet which allows him to get out of tight spaces, and his dribblings skills are also eye-catching.
He also brings a lot of energy to his game, and he keeps on going for the full 90 minutes. The midfielder though might have to improve a bit on the physical front if he wants to thrive in the Scottish Premiership.
Should Lennon make a move for him?
Given the way Celtic dominate most of their games, a defensive midfielder who can create scoring chances for his other teammates from deep areas will be an impressive signing. Celtic should be on the lookout for a long term replacement of Scott Brown and Dorsch might just be an ideal candidate for them.
It is believed that the midfielder is willing to move to Scotland as he will get to play in the European games. The £3.2m fee looks like a decent deal, and we think that Celtic should go out and trigger his contract next summer. As for January, we don’t see the Hoops needing a defensive midfielder. They have a decent amount of options in the middle so Lennon can wait to see more of Dorsch up until the summer of 2020.
