Rangers extended their winning run to five games in all competitions after securing a comprehensive 2-0 win against Livingston at the Tony Macaroni Arena.
The visitors started the game really well, creating some early opportunities. But, Livingston did well to cut out passes in midfield and provide as little space as possible to their attackers. But, it was Joe Aribo who broke the deadlock in the 33rd minute thanks to an excellent finish. Rangers’ then piled on more pressure to their opponents, though the first-half ended 1-0.
After the restart, Rangers’ managed to retain a similar dominance over the opponents. Though their attackers looked frustrated, at times, they eventually doubled their lead through talismanic striker Alfredo Morelos. After that, it was a comfortable ride home for the Gers as they look to continue their push for the league title.
Here is how Steven Gerrard’s men performed in their win over Livi this afternoon.
Allan McGregor 6
Barely had to do anything throughout the entirety of the game as Livingston mustered only two shots on target. Steven Lawless’ effort in the second-half posed the only real threat for the Rangers’ goalie, though the shot went straight at him.
James Tavernier 7.5
Teamed up with Kamara quite well and stepped up to the plate whenever required. It was relatively an easy performance for the defender as Livi provided very little threat going forward.
Conor Goldson 8
A clinical display from the tall centre-back, whose physical and aerial prowess was important in keeping out the threat of Lyndon Dykes. However, he might have done a little better in directing his header goalwards on one occasion, in the first half.
Filip Helander 7
Complemented the defensive work-rate of Goldson and helped him make sure that Livi do not pose a threat on the attack.
Borna Barisic 7.5
Provided the attacking support to his teammates in his offensive forays down the flanks and was, overall, a reliable presence in the Rangers’ backline. Registered an assist when he provided an excellent ball to Morelos for the second goal and could have had one for himself later on.
Glen Kamara 8.5
One of the best performers on the pitch, Kamara showcased incredible work-ethic to dominate the midfield whilst providing ample support to his teammates. His combination with the midfielders and the fullback was excellent. And he could have scored a goal, only to be denied by a brilliant save from Matija Sarkic.
Joe Aribo 9
Much like Kamara, Aribo ran the show in midfield and made sure that Livingston did not get a firm grip on the game. He scored the all-important opener that broke the deadlock and paved the way for his team, in what followed was complete domination.
Ryan Jack 7.5
Jack’s composure in midfield was useful, not only in terms of security for the backline but also with both Aribo and Kamara playing in a more advanced role.
Ryan Kent 6.5
A mixed performance from Kent, who should have done better in terms of beating defenders. He has also sustained a knock, which, Rangers fans would hope, is nothing too serious. Ojo around the hour mark replaced him.
Scott Arfield 8
Although not the most prolific winger in the league, Arfield demonstrated excellent work-ethic and commitment, having made a plethora of important runs in behind the backline. His combination play was also impressive.
Alfredo Morelos 8
After a slow start, Morelos eventually grew into the game, though the Colombian was offered very little time and space. He even got frustrated at times. But, that didn’t stop him from finding the back of the net to double Rangers’ advantage. It is indeed a sign of a top-class forward.
SUBSTITUTES
Sheyi Ojo 7
Replaced the injured Kent around the hour-mark but wasn’t able to make a notable impact on the game. However, it was mainly due to the attention he received from the Livingston defenders.
Jermain Defoe N/A
Replaced Morales in the 82nd minute after the Colombian had started to look a bit jittery.
Greg Stewart N/A
A late replacement for the star of the show, Aribo.
