Arsenal travelled to the King Power Stadium to take on the high flying Leicester City. The Foxes produced another eye-catching performance as Emery’s men were beaten 2-0 on the night. Leicester played the way which Arsenal fans would expect their team to play.
Arsenal were willing to give Leicester more of the ball, and the Foxes played crisp and delightful football in the first 45 minutes. The away team did carry some threat on the counter, and Lacazette should have scored from close range. Overall though Rodgers’ men looked a bit sharper. Guendouzi was lucky to get away without conceding a penalty as he brought Soyuncu down even though he was nowhere near the ball.
Leicester came close to scoring through Ndidi in the second half, but he hit the post. The home team’s persistence finally paid off in the 68th minute as Vardy finished off a slick move from the Foxes. Vardy then turned the provider to Maddison to make it 2-0. Arsenal were entirely outplayed in the second half, and even after going 2-0 up, the Foxes seemed to be the side playing with more urgency.
Here is how Emery’s men fared on the night.
Bernd Leno 5
Couldn’t have done much to prevent the goals. Made some regulation saves apart from that. Had some nervy moments while playing out from the back.
David Luiz 6
Can’t be blamed much for today’s goals which his side conceded. Played some impressive balls from the back.
Callum Chambers 5
Just seemed behind the pace of the game. Leicester’s movement in the attacking third were often too hot for him to handle.
Rob Holding 4.5
Wasn’t alert enough to read the dangers. Was sloppy in possession at times and brought his team under pressure by not being able to play out from the back effectively.
Hector Bellerin 5
Came close to scoring in the second half through a long-range effort. Defensively, he often looked stretched and scampering to keep the up to the pace with Leicester’s attack.
Sead Kolasinac 6
Defensively, he was combative and did his job well. Wasn’t able to get forward much as Leicester dominated the proceedings for most parts.
Mattéo Guendouzi 4
Lucky to get away with a penalty. Took some unnecessary risk in possession, thereby giving the ball away in dangerous areas. Ran out of energy in the end and was looking ragged.
Lucas Torreira 4
Never looked comfortable and gave away a few fouls. Was loose in possession as Leicester were able to close him down quickly. Maybe fans would understand now why he hasn’t been involved in all the games so far this season.
Mesut Ozil 5
Made some clever touches and played some decent passes but Arsenal weren’t able to get him on the ball in dangerous areas often.
Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang 5
Scored one but it was ruled out due to offside. His touch seemed a bit off, and he was often receiving balls in unfavourable positions on the wide. Never had any significant sniff at goal.
Alexandre Lacazette 4
Should have given Arsenal the lead as he was unable to hit the target from six yards out. Was not into the game much after that. Cut a frustrating figure for most parts of the game.
