Mauricio Pochettino’s stuttering Tottenham Hotspur side suffered another setback to their hopes of Champions League qualification next season, after dropping points in a home draw against Sheffield United. The Blades were the better team for the entire game, and would’ve been 2-0 up, had it not been for a couple of extremely questionable decisions by the VAR team. South Korean forward Son got the opener for Spurs before Baldock levelled the scoreline for the Blades.
Here are the Tottenham Hotspur players rated in their draw Vs Sheffield United.
Paulo Gazzaniga – 6
The stand-in keeper didn’t have a very comfortable night in goal as the Sheffield United onslaught began in the very first minute. Should’ve done better with the goal that he eventually conceded.
Serge Aurier – 6
The Ivorian international didn’t have a very good game at wing-back, as he was left doing a lot of defending for most parts of the game. He made a couple of good clearances in the box.
Davinson Sanchez – 6
Certainly the more assured of the two shaky Spurs centre-halves, Sanchez too wasn’t given a moment’s rest by the Blades attackers. He put his body on the line on multiple occasions.
Eric Dier – 5.5
The Englishman picked up an early yellow card in the fixture, and from then on, was walking a perpetual tightrope. Made a couple of decent blocks but looked shaky in the heart of the defence.
Ben Davies – 5.5
Like his opposite number, the Englishman was pegged back by the powerful running of the likes of Lundstrum. Wasn’t given opportunities to get forward, as the Blades threatened with waves of attack after attack.
Moussa Sissoko – 6.5
One of the Spurs’ better players on the night, Sissoko made some excellent runs from deep to threaten the Blades back-line. Didn’t pose enough of a threat with his passing though.
Tanguy Ndombele – 5
The Frenchman was subbed off at half-time after seemingly picking up a slight knock. Didn’t put up an inspiring display until then either.
Giovani Lo Celso – 6
The Argentine, who was making his full debut for Mauricio Pochettino’s side, didn’t have the impact he would’ve been hoping for. Showed signs of quality with some good touches and slick passes.
Dele Alli – 5.5
The Englishman was fuming when his number was put up on the substitution board, but his performance didn’t warrant any further time on the pitch. Went missing for a considerable period in the game.
Heung-Min Son – 7
Stepped up when it mattered and scored the goal that saved Pochettino’s blushes. Singlehandedly tried to crawl Spurs back into the game with his energy and work-rate in the second half.
Harry Kane – 5
The Englishman looked a bit off the pace of the game right from the start, and his lack of fitness is now beginning to show. Didn’t create anything of note going forward either.
Substitutes
Harry Winks – 6
Came on in place of Ndombele for the second half. The youngster did well in the opening minutes of his appearance, before slowly fading away.
Juan Foyth – 5
Made no difference to Spurs’ defensive solidity.
Lucas Moura – NA
Had a fierce shot saved but didn’t have time to make too much of an impact.
