According to a recent report by Birmingham Live, Aston Villa’s midfield star John McGinn recently spoke on BT Sports’ Scottish Football Extra and went on to say that he had his heart set on joining Scottish champions Celtic before the move to Aston Villa took shape.
The Scot went on to say that all his friends and family are Celtic supporters and admitted that he was disappointed that the move did not go through.
How Did John McGinn Make A Name For Himself?
Originally a product of the Scottish Premiership side St.Mirren’s academy, the midfield regista was scouted and signed as a potential talent by Premiership rivals Hibernian. It was under the guidance of current Celtic manager Neil Lennon that he really flourished at the Hibs. It has been suggested that when the offer from Celtic came in, he didn’t need to think twice about making the decision.
After the move to Celtic ended up falling through, the Scot was forced to go with his second option and decided to join an exciting Aston Villa project in the EFL Championship. After making a move before the start of last season, McGinn rapidly developed into one of the Villans’ most important players, thanks to the sheer composure he offers in midfield.
What Does John McGinn Bring To The Table?
Despite being 25 already, the Scottish international’s name has only recently begun to resonate around the Premier League. Over the last couple of months, he has managed to announce himself, not just to the English sides, but to all the big teams in the world. He adds a degree of class in the middle of the park with his passing and movement, and he tends to position himself well to make interceptions as well.
Extremely direct and somewhat aggressive in his forward play, the 25-year-old has a mean shot under his belt as well, as can be seen from the three league goals he’s notched up for the Villans so far this term. His vision and passing range complement each other very well, making him a potent threat from set-pieces. He has, undoubtedly, been the Villans’ midfield commander all campaign, and they’ll surely be grateful about his decision to move to Villa Park.
Is The John McGinn Signing Really Such A Big Deal?
The Scottish international has the quality to walk into any Premier League side, including the top six teams as well. Aston Villa should consider themselves extremely lucky to have beaten all of Europe’s superpowers in identifying the Scot as a future superstar. Despite being 25, he still seems to have a certain youthfulness about him, and Villa fans should certainly be thankful for this boon they’ve received.
