Rangers have had a strong start to the season so far, and they are matching Celtic blow for blow in all competitions. Steven Gerrard has added enough depth in the squad which has helped the Bears to keep up the tempo in all the games so far as he has been able to rotate his players in different competitions.
One player who has been rotated with Joe Aribo in midfield has been Glen Kamara. The former Arsenal midfielder joined the club in January and played a stellar role in the middle. The ease with which he dominated the midfield earned him the nickname Rolls Royce which was given to him by Steven Gerrard.
However, Kamara was a bit slow to start this season as he put in some indifferent displays in the middle. But the Finland international is seemingly back to his best. Kamara was influential in the middle against Porto at Ibrox as he held and moved the ball well using his energy and body to significant effect.
Gerrard gives an update on Kamara
Gerrard recently went on to reveal that Kamara’s impressive form hasn’t gone unnoticed and quite a few clubs are keeping track of him. The English manager said (Daily Record), ”We know Glen is getting watched now. How do I know? Because I get a list of teams, who are coming to our directors’ box.”
“There is a mix of clubs and Glen can play at any level, with the right players and style. But the style we play is perfect for him. He is in a good place at a magnificent club. He has gone from Arsenal to get playing and is now back at a fantastic club.”
Kamara has been linked with likes of Brighton and Crystal Palace, and Gerrard also iterated that some clubs are monitoring him. Moreover, when a Premier League icon like him is claiming that Kamara can play at any level, then that is enough testament to the midfielder’s abilities.
Can Rangers keep him?
The word bargain might not even justify his signing for £50,000, and it was more of a daylight robbery by the Gers to get him for that kind of price. Rangers have him on a long term deal so they should be in an excellent position to negotiate if a team from a top 5 league comes in for his signature.
However, Kamara should look to stay at Ibrox for another year as he has really settled in well at the club. He is playing consistently and has also improved his game playing under a legendary midfielder like Gerrard. But, there are no guarantees in football and Kamara is likely to attract more interest if he continues with his strong performances in the middle.
