Mesut Ozil has once again proven why he is regarded as one of the best attacking midfielders in Europe. Ozil scored a screamer against Ludogorets as Arsenal came from 2-0 down to win it 3-2.
Arsenal saw themselves 2-0 down in the first 15 minutes but goals from Granit Xhaka and Olivier Giroud levelled them. Ozil then created a moment of magic. He received Mohamed Elneny’s long ball and beautifully controlled the ball chipping it over the Ludogorets goalkeeper and then get past two defenders before passing the ball into an empty net. Ozil’s goal sent Arsenal to the Champions League last 16 for the consecutive 16th time.
Arsene Wenger has heaped praise on Ozil who showed a great amount of calmness as he scored his fourth goal in the Champions League, “I would say great players make the right decisions in the game situations they face. They take the optimum solution. To me, it didn’t look like the optimum solution. You wanted him to take the chance earlier.”
In the last season Ozil had scored on eight occasions and in this season he already has scored seven goals so far. Wenger added, “I thought for a while he took too long to score. But at the end of the day, when they score you have to say ‘well done.”
