Chelsea playmaker Mason Mount has dismissed suggestions made by his former teammate Mitchell van Bergen who claimed that the English midfielder would part ways with the Pensioners to seal a move to Barcelona or Real Madrid in the coming years (via the Daily Express). In a recent interview, Mount responded to the transfer suggestion and said (via the Daily Express), “I saw what Mitchell said.
“I’m obviously very close to him – we had a very close bond. He’s a brilliant player.
“But my focus is on Chelsea and this is my first year, so I don’t look too far ahead.
“My focus is on the next game, that’s kind of how far I look ahead.”
Mount’s Magnificent Start To This Campaign
Mount has made a fantastic start to this Premier League campaign and has been at the heart of everything good that Frank Lampard’s men have accomplished over the past few weeks. There is no doubt that he is an exciting young talent who has the potential of becoming a Chelsea great if he can continue to put in a consistent run of performances every year.
The English prospect has made 11 appearances for Chelsea this term, scoring four goals while creating two assists in the Premier League. The Portsmouth-born talent came through the youth ranks of the West London club before going on a loan spell to Derby County last year. He impressed the then Derby boss Lampard at Pride Park last season which goes to explain why he has done so well this season.
Mount has managed to earn Lampard’s faith by becoming a consistent performer on the field. Thus, it is no surprise that he is not thinking about a move to Spain right now as he solely focused on his life at Stamford Bridge. However, things change quickly in football so Barca boss Ernesto Valverde would be wise to monitor the development of the English youngster over the next few months when the fixtures come thick and fast in English football.

Mount has incredible ball-control which helps him make some clever break-away runs from midfield. He has also excelled at linking up play with others around him and has the vision to pick out a killer pass in the offensive end of the pitch. However, the England international is still quite raw and would need time to develop into a top talent.
Should Valverde Make A Move For Mount?
Barca could benefit from acquiring a talented youngster like Mount but only if the player goes on to have a good couple of seasons at West London. For now, Valverde needs a ready-made talent who will be able to hit the ground running at the Nou Camp from the get-go. Therefore, it makes little sense for Barca to make a move for Mount as he might struggle to get regular first-team minutes at Catalonia.
