In a recent segment with Sky Sports, Arsenal legend Charlie Nicholas urged Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp to drop Mohamed Salah when he said, “Liverpool have a huge amount of games coming up. Mohamed Salah was really average at the weekend, as was Roberto Firmino, so Jurgen Klopp may leave a couple out and change it up.
“The full-backs will stay the same and you have to leave Sadio Mane in, but Fabinho could also come back in.
“It is normally Firmino who he rests, but I would leave him in with Mane and leave Salah out. He may not like it but it needs to happen.”
Salah Is Tried And Tested To Make A Successful Return To Form
It seems like Salah’s recent form has come under a lot of scrutiny from the media. However, the Egyptian wide player has proven in the past that he can fire himself back to form when Liverpool need him to step up the most.
The former AS Roma talent had to endure a similar dry spell in terms of scoring goals last season, but he still managed to come back strong and eventually ended up winning the Premier League’s golden boot award. There is no doubt that Salah is struggling at the moment, but Klopp needs to keep his faith in the Egyptian if he wants him to return to form soon.
Stats Suggest The Recent Concerns Over Salah’s Form Could Be Misleading
Despite making an underwhelming start to this campaign, the Egypt international has still managed to bag eight goals and grab four assists in 14 appearances across all competitions. Salah’s record this term is not poor by any means. However, the Liverpool supporters are yet to see the best out of him this season.
Salah, who has scored 41 goals in 67 international matches for Egypt, is one of the quickest players in the Premier League. He tends to find himself in dangerous positions and is often devastating in a 1v1 footrace with the opposition. The Egyptian wide player knows how to get his name on the scoresheet consistently at the highest level.
Is Nicholas Correct With His Assessment?
Nicholas makes sense that Klopp needs to rotate his squad, but it would be more to do with avoiding fitness-related injuries. As far as Salah is concerned, even the most pessimistic Liverpool fan would agree that the 27-year-old will likely return to form sooner rather than later. The ex-Basel talent has a proven track record so he should get the benefit of the doubt at this moment.
All in all, Nicholas makes very little sense with his assessment as he is underestimating the powers of a player who has scored the most goals in the English top-flight for the past two campaigns.
