According to a recent report by the Daily Mail, Lyon’s prolific 23-year-old centre-forward Moussa Dembele has triggered interest from Premier League giants Chelsea. Although Manchester United have been long-time admirers of the Frenchman’s abilities, it has been claimed that the Blues are willing to splash the cash, once their transfer ban gets lifted in the summer.
Although Manchester United are said to be keen on bringing him to Old Trafford in the summer, it is understood that Lyon would prefer to wait until the end of the season, so as to maximise profits, before letting him leave. With the recent dismissal of Sylvinho as the manager as well, Dembele does look a lot better settled than he was a while ago.
Does Chelsea Need Another Striker?
The Pensioners supporters probably wouldn’t have even dreamt that they’d be having such a good season. Currently, in 3rd place and with a representative atop the Golden Boot charts, life is good in West London right now. But come the end of the season, things could look a lot different, especially because this is the Premier League – the most competitive league in the world.
Chelsea’s treatment of Olivier Giroud this season has been criticised time and again, and although he remains a part of the squad, it doesn’t look like he’s going to stick around for too long. Michy Batshuayi – a fully-capped Belgian international striker, is enjoying his football a lot more but is still having to do with a place on the bench. He could also get riled up about the situation and choose to leave at the end of the season. However, that would leave Frank Lampard in a bad scenario, with Tammy Abraham his only remaining strike option.
Why The Blues Must Sign Him Ahead Of Manchester United In The Summer
The Lyon star has been one of the French league’s most prolific goalscorers over the last two seasons, with his tally for this campaign already at eight goals from 11 appearances. Although his relationship with Sylvinho did cause a lot of tension, the new manager has eased the situation, bringing Dembele back to his absolute best.
Still only 23, the striker could form an excellent partnership with Chelsea’s own talisman Tammy Abraham.
Although, the Blues are yet to try out a system with two up-front, the addition of a dynamic and energetic forward like Dembele could be the perfect recipe for Lampard.
It’s safe to say that he’s the real deal, in terms of finishing in the box and overall quality. Whether or not he would get regular game time at Stamford Bridge, especially with Abraham around, will indeed be a tough question to answer. But on paper at least, this looks like a match made in heaven. Now all Frank Lampard has to do, is ensure that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer doesn’t get his hands on him first.
