After Successive losses in the hands of Liverpool and Arsenal, Chelsea have now become title contenders with back to back wins and goalkeeper Asmir Begovic thinks the intensity in Chelsea training has helped him a lot despite not playing often.
Chelsea defeated Southampton 2-0 to move up to the fourth spot and their midweek Cup loss to West Ham was forgotten.
Begovic, who was signed by Jose Mourinho in 2015 from Stoke City, keeper hasn’t played a part in the Premier League so far with his only appearances coming in the EFL Cup.
Antonio Conte was appointed as the manager in this season after Jose Mourinho was sacked and the Italian has turned the fortunes of The Blues who are eyeing their fifth Premier league crown.
Thibaut Courtois’s isn’t immune from mistakes though and Begovic could get a chance if the Belgian makes a series of mistakes.
Despite being knocked out of the cup, which is where Asmir was getting play time, he says the training helps him remain competitive, “It is easier now than when I was younger. You learn how to handle yourself with experience. Training and being at such a high level helps a lot. We have a good group of goalkeepers who push each other and that helps to keep us at as high a level as possible.
“I prepare for matches like I am playing. If I am then needed to play each game, I am able to do a job for the team. You just have to be ready.”
