Celtic will square up against Hibernian FC in the Scottish League Cup semi-finals at the Hampden Park this weekend. The Hoops are coming into this encounter on the back of a win against St. Mirren which took them to the top of the table, albeit on goal difference. The Hibs, meanwhile, have struggled in the Premiership as they sit on the 9th spot. However, Heckingbottom’s men showed some heart to come back from two goals down against Livingston and draw 2-2 in their midweek clash.
There is no doubt that the Hoops will go in as the clear favourites for this tie. The Hibs’ only win in the Premiership came on the opening day of the season. However, they have become draw experts after their last six games in the league ended in a stalemate. Celtic though should have enough firepower to see off the Edinburgh outfit.
Team News: Vakoun Issouf Bayo is the latest player who has joined the treatment table at Celtic, and he could be out for six weeks. Scott Bain is still recovering from his hand injury. Scott Brown also had some issue during the St. Mirren game, but he is expected to recover. Leigh Griffiths is closing in on a return but this weekend’s game will come too soon for him. Jozo Simunovic, Michael Johnston and Marian Shved are expected to miss out.
Celtic Predicted Lineup Vs Hibernian
Formation (4-2-3-1)
Defence
Fraser Forster is expected to continue in goal for the Bhoys. Summer signing Christopher Jullien should start in defence once again. Kristoffer Ajer is likely going to be his centre back partner. Hatem Abd Elhamed could return to the lineup at right-back after sitting out in the midweek game. Boli-Bolingoli Mbombo is also expected to make a comeback at left-back, and Greg Taylor could drop down to the bench after starting against St. Mirren.
Midfield
Scott Brown is expected to be ready, but we think that Lennon shouldn’t risk the captain when they have to play plenty of games this season. Nir Bitton should replace him in the middle. Callum McGregor should continue as the other midfielder. Ryan Christie is expected to occupy the attacking midfield role. James Forrest should start from the right flank again. Mohamed Elyounoussi has found his feet at Celtic, and he scored a crucial goal against St. Mirren recently. He should start on the left flank.
Attack
Odosonne Edouard is the only striker available for Lennon, and the Frenchman will be expected to lead the line for the Hoops.
