According to SportBILD, as cited by Sport Witness, Tottenham Hotspur are interested in the services of Ferran Torres. The Valencia winger has become one of the most sought players in Spain, with his contract expiring in 2021. However, the Lilywhites could face significant competition from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund in the pursuit of the Spaniard.
Torres’ success at Valencia
Torres is a product of the Valencia youth academy. He has been a part of the club’s youth setup since 2006 and was notably promoted to the senior side in January 2018, due to his impressive performances in the youth leagues.
That being said, the winger has struggled with a lack of game-time at Valencia. Although he featured in 13 league games in his professional debut campaign, most of those appearances were late substitutions, which is why he could only muster 302 minutes of football.
It was a similar story last season as well, with Torres starting only eight of the 24 matches he had featured. And although the youngster has become a more prominent part of the first team this season, he has struggled with productivity, having registered just one assist from nine league matches.
What can he bring to the table?
A right-winger by trade, Ferran is known for his ability to nestle through tight spaces using quick movements. He can swiftly use a clever turn or a change of pace to get away from his marker. It is coupled with the technical prowess that allows him to link up with teammates in the final third and create scoring opportunities.
However, what makes Ferran such an effective attacker is that he tends to make runs inside the penalty box and make himself a target for the crosser.
Is Ferran a viable target for Spurs?
Ferrar’s style of play is undoubtedly appealing to Mauricio Pochettino’s tactical setup at Tottenham Hotspur. The Spaniard can not only drift past defenders but is also equipped with the technical sense that will add a new dimension to the Spurs attack.
However, despite all his talents, Ferran has still struggled to become productive in the final third, which could be a cause for concern for Pochettino if he is to make a move on the Spaniard in January. It would, therefore, be wiser for the Premier League giants to drop their pursuit of Ferran and focus on someone like David Neres as they attempt to strengthen their attacking department.
