Celtic travelled to Pittodrie to take on Aberdeen, and they steamrolled them as they secured a comfortable 4-0 win.
Aberdeen away can be considered as one of the toughest fixtures in the league for Celtic and Lennon would have expected a much harder afternoon for his side. But Derek McInnes’ men were passive throughout the game. Odsonne Edouard opened the score with a brilliant solo run where he finished from outside the box. Edouard then turned the provider for young full-back Frimpong who played a smart pass in the build-up.
Forrest joined the act next as Celtic played some eye-catching passing football. Elyounoussi made it four before the break. The winger had enough time to bring the ball on his chest and let it bounce on the floor once before delivering a shot from Rogic’s cross from 9 yards out. That is how much time Aberdeen defenders afforded him in the box.
Celtic lacked a bit of killer instinct in the second half, but the job was already done. Aberdeen hardly showed any heart or desire, and they were booed on numerous occasions during the game.
Here is how Lennon’s men fared.
Fraser Forster 6
Had a snoozefest in goal. Aberdeen’s only attempt at goal came in the 72nd minute which was miles over the bar.
Kristoffer Ajer 8
Kept on stepping high up the pitch. Carried the ball with confidence and played a few impressive passes. Didn’t have to do much in defence.
Christopher Jullien 7
Had a few intense duels with Cosgrove but Jullien often came out strong. Was substituted at half time probably to give Bitton some minutes.
Jeremie Frimpong 8
His reverse pass for the second goal was clever. Then he carried on his run to finish from close quarters. Wasn’t tested defensively but kept on providing an attacking outlet. Could have scored another but fired his shot high from a good chance in the second half.
Boli Bolingoli-Mbombo 7
Celtic often attacked from the right and Bolingoli wasn’t able to get into the game much initially. Did well overall and looked comfortable on the ball.
Scott Brown 7
Was caught in possession once early on but apart from that just strolled through in the middle. Was hardly tested and controlled the game with ease.
Callum McGregor 7
Kept on popping into dangerous areas in the attacking third. Played some neat passes and was hardly pressed by the opponent. Could have played the game in his flip-flops.
Tom Rogic 7.5
Linked up play well in the attacking third and delivered a pinpoint cross for Celtic’s fourth. Took a few attempts from the edge of the box. Looked sharp with his passing.
Mohamed Elyounoussi 7.5
His movement in the final third was often too hard for the Dons to handle. Linked up play well and scored the fourth goal with a composed finish.
James Forrest 7.5
Finished a brilliant move for Celtic’s third goal. His movement and passing were classy in the first half. Had a few wayward attempts at goal in the second half.
Odsonne Edouard 9
Showed why he is attracting interest from some of the top clubs. The first goal was a thing of beauty as he carried the ball well and then had the composure to finish from the edge of the box. Assisted the second goal with a clever pass. Always looked a threat whenever he got on the ball and Aberdeen didn’t have any answers for him.
Substitutes
Nir Bitton 7
Played a few impressive forward passes from the back. Got some minutes under his belt.
Vakoun Issouf Bayo 6
His touch was a bit off, but he linked up play well on occasions.
Jonny Hayes N/A
Didn’t play enough to warrant a rating
