Manchester United clashed heads with FK Partizan earlier tonight hoping to consolidate their position at the top of their UEFA Europa League group with a win on the road. The Red Devils enjoyed more of the possession in the first half and finally managed to make the all-important breakthrough in the 43rd minute via Anthony Martial’s successful penalty.
The home team gave a good account of themselves after the half-time break when they created plenty of chances to try and score the equaliser. However, the Serbian outfit were wasteful in the final third. The match finished with the final scoreline of 1-0 in favour of the Mancunian giants.
Let’s take a look at how each Man United player performed during the match against Partizan.
GK: Sergio Romero – 7.5/10
The Argentine keeper made a few world-class saves to help his team keep a clean sheet. It was a welcome return to the first-team for Man United’s second-choice goalie.
CB: Phil Jones – 6/10
The English defender had a comfortable game in the first half but had to work a lot in the second to restrict the Partizan attackers from scoring a goal.
CB: Harry Maguire – 5/10
The former Leicester City centre-back committed way too many fouls and put his teammates in danger at times during the game. He will be hoping for better days wearing a Man United shirt.
CB: Marcos Rojo – 6/10
The South American centre-back struggled to keep up with the pace of the contest but did enough to secure a shut-out at the back.
RWB: Aaron Wan-Bissaka – 5/10
He was defensively vulnerable and lacked the cutting edge in the offensive end of the field. It was not the best night for the ex-Crystal Palace full-back.
CM: James Garner – 6/10
He lost his head a couple of times early on but put in a decent display after he settled into the rhythm of the contest.
CM: Scott McTominay – 6/10
The Red Devils rising star helped establish his side’s dominance at the centre of the park. However, he lacked creativity with his attempted passes and was guilty of squandering an excellent goal-scoring opportunity as well.
LWB: Brandon Williams – 7.5/10
The Man United youngster didn’t let the occasion get the best of him. He was a brilliant outlet for the visitors down the left flank and was responsible for earning the vital penalty in the first half.
RAM: Jesse Lingard – 4/10
The English playmaker was unfortunate when he hit the post in the first half. However, his overall performance was woeful during the game as he didn’t contribute any meaningful going forward.
LAM: Juan Mata – 5/10
The Spaniard was too slow and struggled to keep up with the tempo of the game. It was another average display from Mata tonight.
ST: Anthony Martial – 6/10
The French striker did score the only goal of the clash from the penalty spot. However, his overall performance as a centre-forward left a lot to be desired.
Substitutes:
LM: Daniel James – 6/10
He looked lively after coming on in the 59th minute.
ST: Marcus Rashford – 6/10
The English forward was clever with his movements but didn’t do enough to score a goal.
CAM: Andreas Pereira – N/A
He did not have enough time to make an impact.
