Newcastle United have been heavily linked with Hull City’s winger Jarrod Bowen in the last few months. The winger is currently in the final year of his contract, but Hull City have an option to trigger a year-long extension. Some reports have emerged that the Tigers are looking to tie him down on a new contract. However, after Bowen’s latest interview, we think that is unlikely to happen.
Bowen on his future
Bowen went on to indicate that he will be open for a January move even though he is only concentrating about performing on the pitch. The English winger said (The Chronicle), ”If I leave, I leave, if I don’t, I am loving it here, What will be, will be. I have just got to keep my head down.”
”I have got agents that take care of all of that. I am playing football, so I am not surprised that I didn’t leave. It is out of my hands what happens off the pitch, I have just got to (perform) on the pitch.”
The 22-year-old has emerged as a talismanic man for Hull City in the last few seasons. Last season, Bowen bagged 22 goals, and he earned a place in Championship’s team of the season even though the Tigers finished 13th. This season again, the Hull City academy product has carried on with his excellent work as he has six goals and two assists in all competitions so far.
Where will Bowen fit in at St. James’ Park?
Christian Atsu, Allan Saint-Maximin, and Miguel Almiron are currently the players who can play on the wings. However, we think that Almiron is more suited to play in a central role, and he will be far more effective there. Bowen is a right-winger, who plays as an inverted winger. He often likes to cut inside to his favoured left foot instead of hugging the bylines.
Should Bruce make a move?
We think that he will be a good fit in Steve Bruce’s system. Bowen’s standout asset is his ability to make the right decision in the final third as he always looks to affect the play in the final third. He has decent pace and dribbling skills, but most importantly, he brings a genuine goal threat whenever he gets on the ball in the attacking areas.
For comparisons, he is quite similar to what Harry Wilson provides, and we think that Newcastle United should look to get him in January. The winger too seems to be open to a move.
