According to a recent report by the Scottish Sun, Premier League high-flyers Aston Villa are said to be extremely interested in bringing Rangers’ prolific forward Alfredo Morelos to Villa Park in January. The striker is claimed to be attracting interest from the likes of Crystal Palace, Liverpool, Arsenal and Newcastle as well, and Aston Villa will do well to secure a signing that could hoist them back to their former days of glory.
It has been suggested that all the clubs above had representatives watching the Colombian international at the Gers’ game against Hearts on Sunday.
Who Is Alfredo Morelos?
Born in the Colombian town of Cerete, the 23-year-old began his playing career at Colombian outfit Independiente Medellin, and from a young age, has been touted for great things. After making a name for himself at the club, he made his first move away from South America when he joined Finnish club HJK Helsinki.
After a successful loan spell at the European side, he had his move made permanent. Although this came as positive news to the youngster, his permanent stint at Helsinki was to be extremely short-lived.
After just six months at the club, he was sold to Scottish giants Rangers, as they looked to strengthen to challenge Celtic for the Scottish Premiership title. Since making the move to the Ibrox, the youngster has been nothing short of a revelation. He has already made a solid name for himself in the time he’s been in Scotland, and his goalscoring numbers further back up his immense quality.
What does Alfredo Morelos bring to the table?
The Colombian is a highly dynamic and enthusiastic centre-forward who likes to bully defenders off the ball and make runs in behind as well. More than capable of beating someone for pace, the youngster also has the odd trick up his sleeve. He tends to be an excellent finisher in the box and has the intelligence to pick out teammates in better positions than himself as well.
Now a regular in the Rangers side, the Colombian does have a weakness in his game – discipline. In his short time at the Ibrox, the youngster has already picked up five red cards, with the most worrying part being that three of them came as straight reds. However, this season he is yet to pick up a single booking which indicates he is learning from his mistakes.
Will Alfredo Morelos be a good signing for Aston Villa?
The Villans recently acquired the services of Brazilian striker Wesley, who offers a very different kind of skill-set to the one that Morelos boasts. Being a forward who depends more on pace and guile rather than sheer physicality, Morelos could turn out to be an excellent alternative to have at Villa Park.
He has the quality to perform at the highest level and certainly isn’t afraid to put himself about. As long as he’s able to keep his raging temper in check, this move could prove to be extremely fruitful for both the player and Aston Villa.
