According to a recent report by the Daily Star, football journalist and reporter Fabrizio Romano has claimed in a tweet that Premier League giants Chelsea are close to agreeing on a new long-term contract with breakout star Tammy Abraham.
Although the Englishman’s current contract runs all the way until 2022, it has been suggested that the club are keen to reward the forward for all his positive work and to cement him as the Blues’ first-choice number nine for a long time to come. The usually well-informed Fabrizio Romano has further gone on to say that Chelsea are “more than confident” about securing a deal and that it is “totally confirmed”.

How did Tammy Abraham make a name for himself?
The Englishman, like many successful youngsters before, came through the Blues’ conveyer belt of bright, young talent – more commonly known as the Chelsea academy. He was part of all their development squads and gradually built his way up into the reserves.
He had three very important loan stints away from Stamford Bridge, that has really helped mould him as a player. The first was at Bristol City during the 16/17 season, where he scored an impressive 26 goals from 48 appearances. His next spell away was at Swansea City. Although he didn’t quite reach the same heights, he did impress on occasion and finished up with eight goals to his name.
Although these did him a lot of good, it wasn’t until next year that he had his sudden spurt of quality. While on loan at Aston Villa, Tammy Abraham was an absolute monster. He lit the Championship on fire with his goals and assists and even helped the Villans make their dream return to the Premier League. He scored an incredible 25 times in the league last year and was only bettered on the Golden Boot charts by Norwich’s Finnish sensation Teemu Pukki.
How Has Tammy Abraham Earned Frank Lampard’s Trust This Season?
Right from the opening day of the campaign, Chelsea boss Lampard has placed his trust in the young forward, ahead of veteran strikers Olivier Giroud and Michy Batshuayi. The youngster has repaid this trust spectacularly. Tammy Abraham has scored eight goals from Chelsea’s nine Premier League games so far this season, and currently finds himself atop the Golden Boot charts.
Ahead of household names like Sergio Aguero and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang on the list, he has shown no signs of dropping off the pace either, with consistently good displays, even when he doesn’t get on the scoresheet.
Why Chelsea Must Tie Tammy Abraham Down For The Long-Term
The Blues have always had problems finding strikers that fit it with the club’s footballing philosophy. Over the years, many great players have come and gone, but not many have managed to make it stick at Stamford Bridge. Didier Drogba, and to a certain extent, Diego Costa, were successful Chelsea strikers but the rest were never up to the mark. In Tammy, they seem to have found the end to their goalscoring woes. Deceptively quick and a natural finisher, the youngster has all the makings of a Chelsea legend, and if he continues at this rate, there’ll be no stopping him in the years ahead.
