Liverpool travelled to Old Trafford to clash heads with their old rivals Manchester United earlier today hoping to continue their remarkable winning run in the Premier League. The Reds took some time to settle into the game which gave the Red Devils more joy going forward. The home team managed to open the goal-scoring through Marcus Rashford’s finish from close range. Jurgen Klopp’s men initially responded positively when Sadio Mane found the back of the net with a tidy finish. However, the goal was ruled out by VAR because the Senegalese clearly handled the ball in the process.
The European champions were average at best throughout the second half, but they finally found the equaliser via Adam Lallana’s tap in from point-blank range. The match finished with a 1-1 scoreline as both sides shared the spoils.
Let’s take a look at how each Liverpool player have performed during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Alisson Becker – 6/10
The Brazilian keeper did his job when called into action and was neat with his ball-distribution. He couldn’t do much about Rashford’s goal in the first half.
RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 5.5/10
The English full-back was defensively vulnerable, and his crosses from the wide areas were quite predictable. He will be hoping for better days in a Liverpool shirt.
CB: Joel Matip – 6/10
The Cameroonian centre-back would be disappointed that he didn’t track Rashford’s run in the lead-up to the opening goal of the contest. However, his positional awareness was brilliant, and he commanded his own box well to restrict the home team to just one goal.
CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 6.5/10
The Dutch centre-back was dominant in the air and was a hard man to beat in a 1v1 situation. However, his attempted long passes often led to nowhere which was quite uncharacteristic for a player of his quality.
LB: Andrew Robertson – 7/10
The Scottish full-back defended well and tracked back when needed. He never gave up and delivered a telling ball which fell to Lallana’s feet, and the ex-Southampton playmaker didn’t make any mistake from close range.
CM: Jordan Henderson – 5/10
The Liverpool captain had slowed the tempo down for his team in midfield which explains why the visitors have failed to create too many clear-cut chances in the final third.
CM: Fabinho – 5.5/10
The Brazilian midfield ace battled hard for every loose ball but failed to establish his side’s dominance at the centre of the park. However, he was back to his usual best during the final few minutes of the match.
CM: Georginio Wijnaldum – 6/10
The Dutch midfielder saw a lot of the ball and was Klopp’s best weapon going forward in the first half. However, his performance level dropped drastically in the second half that led to his substitution.
RM: Sadio Mane – 6/10
The Senegalese speedster would be disappointed that his goal was ruled out in the first half. He had a quiet game for Liverpool but did look threatening when he had the ball.
ST: Roberto Firmino – 4/10
The Brazilian forward put in a dismal display in the first half when he gave away the ball cheaply on numerous occasions to hand the impetus to Man United. He put in a much-improved showing after the half-time break but still didn’t provide any moments of magic in the opposition half.
LM: Divock Origi – 5/10
The Belgian striker threatened Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s defenders early on, but he lacked the cutting edge in the attacking third of the field.
Substitutes:
CM: Adam Lallana – 7/10
He retained possession well and kept his composure to equalise from close range.
LM: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain – 6.5/10
The English midfielder looked like a man on a mission and went close to handing Liverpool the lead when his shot narrowly missed the target.
CM: Naby Keita – 6/10
The Guinean talent moved the ball well and invited Robertson to whip in some dangerous crosses during the latter stages of the clash.
