According to a recent report by the Daily Express, Premier League legend and former Leicester City striker Emile Heskey has publicly stated that English midfielder James Maddison might reject all the clubs keen on his signature and instead, opt for a Leicester City stay. The veteran of the English game further went on to say that the Foxes staff and management are in no rush to cash in on the youngster, whose stock is only going to increase.
It has also been suggested that the Foxes are currently building a squad at the King Power Stadium and that player’s departure will be up to the discretion of Brendan Rodgers. The report further suggests that Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham are all interested in the midfielder’s services.
What Is James Maddison’s Current Situation At Leicester?
Arguably the best player in the whole squad, Maddison’s contributions to the team have been nothing short of pivotal for the Foxes this term. Currently, in 3rd place with just 2 points separating them from 2nd place Manchester City, Rodgers will be quietly confident about his team’s chances of a European finish this season. The Englishman’s current contract at the King Power Stadium runs until the end of the 2022/23 season, and it doesn’t look like any of the teams interested in him, are going to be keen on waiting for that long.
A graduate of the Coventry City academy, he was scouted and signed as a potential talent by Norwich in the winter of 2016. After loan stints back at Coventry and with Aberdeen in Scotland, the youngster returned to Carrow Road looking like a completely new player.
After spending a little over a year playing first-team football at Norwich, he was eventually sold to Leicester for a fairly significant price, just last year. This league campaign, he’s played in 7 of the Foxes’ 9 matches so far and has notched up an impressive two goals and two assists.
What Does James Maddison Offer The Team?
The Englishman’s ability to pick out teammates’ runs with some mind-bending passes makes him one of the biggest assets in the Premier League right now. He shows a degree of composure and confidence on the ball that English players just seem to lack. He has a fierce shot on him as well, making him one of the deadliest midfielders in the entire league. Fantastic at delivering set-pieces and converting penalties, the youngster is effectively assured to be one of Premier League’s future stars.
Will Leicester City Be Able To Hold James Maddison Down?
Although Emile Heskey’s comments might come as positive news to Leicester City fans, when the biggest clubs in the world come calling, any player will have second-thoughts, at least for a moment. With names like Manchester United and Chelsea involved, keeping him at the King Power Stadium will be an uphill task.
He offers more to the team than most players in the Foxes’ ranks, and that should be motivation enough for Brendan Rodgers to tie him down. Although a move away does seem attractive at this time, the youngster should stay put at Leicester City.
