According to a recent report by the Daily Mirror, Manchester United midfield ace Paul Pogba met with Real Madrid head coach Zinedine Zidane in Dubai during the international break. This latest development has put more doubt on the French playmaker’s long-term future at Old Trafford. The 26-year-old was heavily linked with a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium earlier this summer, but a move failed to materialise back then (via the Daily Mirror).
However, with the Red Devils currently struggling to get a run of positive results in the Premier League, a world-class midfielder like Pogba might be more inclined towards switching clubs shortly. The Man United star revealed that he was keen on taking up a “new challenge” (via ESPN) back in June. Zidane has also disclosed his admiration for Pogba in the recent past (via ESPN), so it is no surprise that the pair met up in Dubai for a quick picture earlier this week.
Pogba’s Recent Struggles For The Red Devils
The 2018 FIFA World Cup winner has made a rusty start to this campaign, and his performances for the Mancunian outfit have been average at best thus far. He has featured in six matches for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s team this term and has two assists to his name across all competitions. Pogba is currently sidelined due to injury but would be expected to play a vital role for Man United in the coming weeks.
The former Juventus talent has also secured 69 international caps for the French national side and has netted ten goals for his homeland so far. Pogba was the chief architect behind his nation’s success in the World Cup at Russia last summer.
What Does The France International Offer On The Pitch?
On his day, Pogba can be a world-class talent who can win matches on his own. He is a complete midfielder as there are no weaknesses in his game as such. The Frenchman has proven himself to be a prolific goal-scorer from midfield and is also not shy of playing a decisive pass in the final third. However, his recent performances have not been pretty on the eyes which begs the question of whether Zidane would be better off cashing in on his services soon.
One of Pogba’s main criticisms during his time at the Theatre of Dreams has been his lack of hunger when things are not going according to plan on the field. He has also struggled to put in a consistent run of performances this year which indicates that he is not happy with his life at Manchester.
Is Pogba The Right Choice For Los Blancos?
Zidane should try his best to bring his national compatriot to the Spanish capital next summer. Pogba could turn out to be the perfect lynchpin who can inspire the next generation of Galacticos at Madrid. Furthermore, the French powerhouse might be better-suited to find more joy at the Bernabeu, where some of the most technically proficient players will surround him.
