Liverpool will make a short trip to Old Trafford to clash heads with their arch-rivals, Manchester United on Sunday afternoon after winning all eight of their league matches this season. The Reds are currently sitting eight points clear at the top of the English top-flight standings. However, Jurgen Klopp does not have a winning history at the Theatre of Dreams, so he would hope that his players can secure a rare victory away at Manchester.
The Merseyside club will set-up in a 4-3-3 formation with both Alisson Becker and Joel Matip expected to start after their recent injury layoffs.
4-3-3 Liverpool Predicted Lineup To Face Manchester United
Defence
Alisson Becker is expected to make his first-team return after recovering from a calf injury that he sustained against Norwich City in the opening night of this Premier League campaign. Adrian will have settle for a spot on Klopp’s bench. Joel Matip is a doubt for this match. Therefore, he will be in for a late fitness test to determine whether he will start alongside Virgil Van Dijk at the centre of the Liverpool backline this weekend.
If not, then Joe Gomez might be asked to step up and fill in at centre-back while Dejan Lovren awaits his opportunity on the Reds bench. Trent Alexander-Arnold will look to cause a few problems for the Man United defence down the right flank. Andrew Robertson will once again focus on putting in a tireless shift as the left-back.
Both full-backs will be expected to push high up the pitch so that they can provide enough ammunition for the Liverpool frontline.
Midfield
Klopp might go with the midfield three of Georginio Wijnaldum, Fabinho and James Milner as he looks to freshen things up at the middle of the park. The hard-working trio will hope to dominate possession against the Red Devils by winning the ball back high up the field.
Both Naby Keita and Jordan Henderson will have to settle for a spot on the Liverpool bench but might come on to make an impact if needed.
Attack
The Reds frontline will be comprised of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah if the Egyptian international can recover in time to face off against Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men. Xherdan Shaqiri is also a doubt for this game which means that Klopp will be reliant on Divock Origi and Rhian Brewster to turn things around if things don’t go to plan at Old Trafford on Sunday.
