According to Gazzetta Dello Sport, as cited by Sportsmole, Chelsea are monitoring the development of Emanuel Vignato. The Chievo Verona starlet has impressed the onlookers with his blazing performances in Serie B, thereby attracting interest from the Premier League giants. However, they could face stiff competition from AC Milan, who are also keen on the young winger.
Vignato’s rapid rise to prominence
Vignato was one of the brightest talents in the Chievo youth department. His impressive performances in the youth leagues led to his rapid promotion to the U19 squad, at the age of just 16. And the following year, he was promoted to the senior side, aged only 17.
Vignato used to play for Chievo Primavera side before he made his debut during the 2018/19 campaign. The youngster ended up featuring in ten Serie A matches last season, and even though his club was relegated to the second division, Vignato made quite a mark with his technique and flair on the flanks.
As a result, the 19-year-old has become a vital member of the Chievo attack this season. He has already featured in seven Serie B games, even though he has been involved in just one goal so far.
What can he bring to the table?
Vignato is an explosive winger, who loves to take on defenders. His quick feet enable him to nestle through tight spaces. It also makes it difficult for the defenders to shrug the ball off him as he is pretty quick in evading tackles. His short 1.75m frame definitely helps the youngster with additional balance when running with the ball.
Vignato is capable of whipping in dangerous crosses from the flanks. But, he is also capable of shifting into a more central position and finding passing options. His style of play is quite similar to current Chelsea star Christian Pulisic.
Should Chelsea make a move for Vignato?
Chelsea are in dire need of attacking reinforcements as most of their attackers have struggled with lack of consistency. Pulisic, in particular, has failed to live up to his hefty price tag and has often been overlooked by manager Frank Lampard.
Vignato, to that end, could be a viable target. The Italian youngster has the quality as well as the potential to become a key member of the Chelsea side. But first, the Blues need to sign a well-established winger, who can instantly make an impact at Stamford Bridge next season. Jadon Sancho, for one, could be an excellent candidate.
