According to Tuttomercatoweb, Chelsea defender Abdul Rahman Baba’s agent Sascha Empacher has offered his agent to AC Milan. The SPOCS agent was recently at Casa Milan to discuss the matter regarding a few of his clients, including Baba Rahman. The left-back currently plays for RCD Mallorca, on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
Baba Rahman’s struggles at Chelsea
Baba Rahman initially joined Chelsea way back in 2015, in a €20m move from FC Augsburg. He was one of the best fullbacks in the Bundesliga at that time. But, the defender failed to impress the onlookers, despite featuring in 15 Premier League matches during his debut campaign in England.
As a result, the Ghanaian became a victim of Chelsea’s notorious loan policy. He was loaned out to FC Schalke in the summer of 2016. He impressed, as well, in his return to the Bundesliga. But, the left-back, unfortunately, endured an injury-ravaged spell during the 2017/18 season.
An ACL injury along with a lack of fitness saw the defender be out of action for more than a year while he was on loan at Schalke.
Baba eventually returned to Stamford Bridge at the start of this year. However, he was shipped out to Reims on loan before moving to Mallorca on yet another loan spell this summer. The 25-year-old is currently nursing a knee injury and has featured in only two games for the Spanish outfit.
Should Chelsea get rid of Baba permanently?
Like most of Chelsea’s young players, Baba has been unlucky with the lack of chances at Stamford Bridge. But at the same time, his struggles with injuries coupled with his lack of consistency means that he cannot be deemed as a top-class fullback anymore.
Therefore, it’s unlikely Milan would want to sign him next summer unless they are looking for an alternative for Ricardo Rodriguez.
As for Chelsea, they will be unfazed by the departure of Baba even though both Emerson and Marcos Alonso haven’t been as convincing. Their ongoing transfer ban will be lifted next summer, allowing them to sign a new left-back.
Baba’s departure, therefore, could be crucial as it will help the Blues create space in their squad for a new arrival at left-back. That being said, the Premier League giants should monitor the progress of the Ghanaian in Spain as he most certainly has the potential to become a really useful asset for any top tier outfit. Not to mention, a positive campaign in the La Liga could significantly increase his value next summer.
