According to a recent report by TuttoMercatoWeb, Everton scouts were present to catch the Sampdoria defensive ace Julian Chabot in action for the German U-21 side against the Spanish U-21s earlier this week. The same source has revealed that the Toffees are keeping tabs on the German youngster’s progress but are yet to make a move for him.
Chabot’s Playing Career In A Nutshell
The Hanau-born prospect began his career at Eintracht Frankfurt before he made a switch to play for RB Leipzig’s academy back in 2014. However, he failed to prove his value and was released by the German club.
Sparta Rotterdam offered Chabot a chance to move to the Netherlands and gave him the platform to showcase his worth. He earned a move to FC Groningen soon after and made a real impact at the Dutch club, helping them secure a strong eight-placed finish in the Bundesliga standings last season. Groningen had the third-best defensive record in their division in the 2018-19 campaign after they allowed only 41 goals at the back.
Chabot’s incredible performances at Noordlease Stadion caught the eyes of Sampdoria chiefs as they decided to bring him to Italy. The German rising star has featured in three matches for the Serie A side this season, making an average of 0.7 tackles, 1.3 interceptions and 2.3 clearances per game (stats via whoscored). He is a fast learner and knows how to defend valiantly for his team even when he is being bombarded by the opposition inside his own half.
What Will The German Whizkid Bring To Goodison Park?
Chabot is primarily a centre-back but can also fill in as a defensive midfielder if required. His versatility could help Marco Silva tweak his formation in the middle of a game which might turn out to be quite a useful tool for the Toffees in the long-run.
The German U-21 international is a dominating presence at the back and can command his own penalty area with authority and conviction. He has remarkable strength which allows him to emerge victorious in a lot of 50-50 aerial duels. However, the Serie A rising star lacks pace and doesn’t possess the skill set required to pass the ball out from the back.
Even then, the pros outweigh the cons of recruiting Chabot and so Silva should strongly consider making a move for him in the future.
