According to Eldesmarque, Chelsea have tabled a €60 million offer to sign Gareth Bale next summer. The Real Madrid star is believed to be unsettled at the Santiago Bernabeu after receiving poor treatment from Zinedine Zidane. As a result, the Premier League giants are ready to rope in the Welshman back to England by offering Madrid a total of €60 million.
Bale’s struggles at Real Madrid
Bale has played a crucial role behind Real Madrid’s unrivalled success in Europe under Zinedine Zidane. But, in the past couple of years, the Welshman has struggled with a lack of fitness and has suffered a host of injury problems. As a result, he hasn’t played a lot of football.
It is also the reason why the likes of Marco Asensio, Vinicius Junior and even Lucas Vazquez made their breakthroughs at the Bernabeu. Bale was even linked with a move away from the club in the summer, but nothing really materialised.
This season, however, Bale has played a vital role despite the apparent bad blood between him and Zidane. The ex-Tottenham star has already featured in six league matches, being involved in four goals. His contributions in the attack have helped Real Madrid stay at the top of the La Liga table.
That being said, Bale still wants to leave the club and Chelsea, in that regard, has emerged as a potential destination.
But do Chelsea really need him?
Chelsea have clearly struggled in the attacking department this season. The likes of Pedro, Willian and Christian Pulisic have often appeared inconsistent. As a result, the Blues have been over-reliant on the services of Tammy Abraham. The youngster has done well, for the most part, scoring eight goals.
But, it’s needless to say that the absence of Eden Hazard has been evident. And with the Belgian joining Real Madrid in the summer, Chelsea have lacked the presence of a leader in the attack. Bale, in that regard, may well turn out to be the face of the Blues’ attack.
The Welshman already has a vast amount of experience in the English top-flight and should fit in rather well at Stamford Bridge. Besides, he’s likely to take a pay cut, meaning finance will not be an issue, although spending €60 million is still a big deal.
The downside of this deal is Bale’s age. The winger will turn 31 before the start of next season, meaning he cannot be considered as a long-term investment for the Blues. But aside from that, he has the quality as well as the pedigree to provide a new identity to the Chelsea attack.
