According to a recent update on Twitter by the Times’ correspondent Paul Joyce, Everton playmaker Fabian Delph has suffered a hamstring injury and won’t be involved in England’s squad for the upcoming international matches against the Czech Republic and Bulgaria respectively.
Delph Has Been One Of Everton’s Better Players This Season
It is believed that the English talent sustained the knock during his side’s 1-0 loss away at Burnley last weekend. This recent development will be a bitter pill to swallow for Marco Silva, and he is currently fighting to save his managerial position at Goodison Park.
The Toffees have made a poor start to this campaign after only picking up two victories in eight league matches thus far. Delph has been one of Everton’s better performers this season, so losing him to a hamstring problem could hurt their chances of securing a run of favourable results after the international break.
The 29-year-old has featured in nine matches for the Merseyside outfit this term but is yet to open his goal-scoring account for his new club. More importantly, Delph has made an average of 0.6 key passes, 1.0 dribbles and has completed 86.6% of his passes per game in the Premier League this season (stats via whoscored).
What Does He Add To Marco Silva’s Side?
Delph has decent pace and can make some clever runs from midfield. However, he is better suited to operate in a deeper role in midfield so that he can distribute the ball accurately and create some decent goal-scoring opportunities for his teammates in the final third.
Can The Merseyside Outfit Cope With Delph’s Absence?
Losing a player as influential as Delph will leave a big hole in the Toffees’ first-team. Everton can take some solace from the fact that it is only a hamstring problem which might see the English playmaker miss out only on a few matches this month. However, he will still have plenty of time to come back and steer the Everton ship towards the right direction moving forward.
Delph has what it takes to put in a consistent run of performances on the field unlike the rest of his Everton teammates. Therefore, Silva would be desperate to avoid the sack by earning some productive results on the pitch until the English midfield ace returns from his latest injury setback.
