According to The Sun, Leicester City are monitoring the situation of Ronan Darcy. The Bolton Wanderers forward has been identified as a potential target for the Foxes, and a January move could be on the horizon. The Premier League club is also keen on signing a new left-back amid fears of Ben Chilwell’s potential exit from the King Power Stadium.
Who is Ronan Darcy?
A centre forward by trade, Darcy is regarded as one of the most talented players to come out of Bolton’s youth academy in recent years. However, his promotion to senior football happened rather quickly as he made his first-team debut last season, at the age of 17.
It was the club’s financial instability that forced them to rely on the services of youth players. But, after recovering from that crisis and getting a few deals done on the deadline day this summer, Bolton have stopped utilising the qualities of Darcy.
As a result, the youngster hasn’t featured in any of the last three games, despite playing in all six matches beforehand. Furthermore, Darcy’s current contract at Bolton expires at the end of the campaign. Hence, his days in League One could be numbered, especially with Leicester City interested.
Should Leicester make a move for Darcy?
Darcy, by all means, is still an unproven attacker, who is unlikely to be drafted straight into the senior side upon his potential arrival at the King Power Stadium.
That being said, the Foxes lack the services of a reliable goal-scorer aside from Jamie Vardy. Kelechi Iheanacho has never really managed to impress at Leicester while big-money signing Ayoze Perez is yet to score a single goal for his new club this season.
Also, Vardy, at the age of 32, is nearing the end of his career. That means Darcy has the scope of becoming something more than just an academy star. The Foxes should make a move for the youngster, who, in turn, could really shine under Brendan Rodgers. The ex-Liverpool manager isn’t afraid to hand out opportunities to young, untested players. Therefore, a move to Leicester City could be the ideal move for Darcy.
