According to a recent report by the Daily Star, Manchester United are preparing an offer to secure the services of Sean Longstaff from Newcastle United when the transfer window reopens in January. The same source has claimed that the Red Devils are eyeing a move to sign the Magpies star as well as Olympique Lyonnais striker Moussa Dembele in an estimated £90m deal during the winter transfer period.
Longstaff’s Rise To The Top At St. James’ Park
Longstaff came through the youth ranks of Newcastle before breaking out as a first-team starter last season. He put in some memorable displays for the Tyneside outfit which has made him a fan-favourite at St. James’ Park.
The English midfield ace has previously had loan spells with Kilmarnock and Blackpool which helped him shape the player he is today. Since breaking out as a first-team starter in the previous campaign, Longstaff has gone on to make a total of 18 senior appearances for the Magpies, scoring two goals while grabbing two assists across multiple competitions.
The North Sheilds born prospect has begun this season a bit slow after creating only one assist in five matches for Steve Bruce’s side on all fronts. Newcastle are currently languishing in the 19th place of the English top-flight standings. Longstaff needs to find a way to help his boyhood club avoid relegation this season.
What Will The English Rising Star Add To Solskjaer’s Team?
Longstaff is a workhorse in midfield, who doesn’t mind giving his 100% for his team week in week out. The 21-year-old can make some clever runs in the opposition half and link up play well with others around him. The English starlet has already shown that he can contribute by scoring or orchestrating a few goals from midfield. However, he is still quite raw and is far from the finished product. At the same time, there is no doubt over his incredible potential, so Man United will do well to lure him away from Tyneside.
Is Longstaff The Right Fit For Man United?
The potential acquisition of a midfielder of Longstaff’s potential will undeniably improve the depth and increase competition for places within Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s squad. The Mancunian giants will need to build for the future if they are to compete with Manchester City and Liverpool in the coming years. Hence, splashing the cash on Longstaff could help Solskjaer build a solid foundation in midfield with Scott McTominay also expected to have a bright future at Old Trafford.
Longstaff has what it takes to succeed at the Theatre of Dreams so Man United should consider recruiting him this winter.
