Tottenham Hotspur played hosts to Bayern Munich earlier tonight hoping to pick up their first win of this UEFA Champions League campaign. Spurs made a brilliant start to the contest when Heung-min Son scored after 12 minutes. However, the Bavarian giants came up with a response just three minutes later via Joshua Kimmich’s incredible strike. Robert Lewandoski gave Bayern the lead for the first time in the 45th minute, much to the dismay of the Spurs supporters.
It was the turning point of the game as Mauricio Pochettino’s defenders completely broke down in the second half. Bayern went on to score five more goals via four strikes of Serge Gnabry and one more goal from Lewandowski. The North London side could only get another consolation goal via Harry Kane’s penalty.
The match ended with the final scoreline of 7-2 in favour of Niko Kovac’s men.
Let’s take a look at how each Tottenham player performed during the match against Bayern Munich.
GK: Hugo Lloris – 4/10
The French keeper couldn’t do much about any of Bayern’s seven goals tonight. He was beaten by some clinical finishing from the visitors.
RB: Serge Aurier – 1/10
The French full-back made numerous defensive mistakes at the back, especially in the second half. He left his team exposed inside his own half time and again. Gnabry completedly had him for dinner as he managed to score four goals by running past Aurier.
CB: Toby Alderweireld – 3/10
The Belgian centre-half managed to make a couple of good blocks in the first half, but he switched off quite often in the second as Bayen wreaked havoc in the final third.
CB: Jan Vertonghen – 3/10
The Spurs defender showed some grit and determination in the first half. However, he couldn’t handle the pace of the Bayern counter-attacks in the second.
LB: Danny Rose – 4/10
The English left-back won the penalty but didn’t do too much else during the game. He was defensively vulnerable as the German champions ran riot at North London.
CM: Harry Winks – 4/10
He started the game brightly but gave away the ball too many times in midfield. Winks was at fault in the lead-up to Bayern’s fourth goal of the night.
CM: Tanguy NDombele – 7/10
Ndombele was the only Spurs player who had a good game tonight. He was bright and inventive on the ball in the first half and came close to picking up a couple of assists from the match. However, his teammates let him down by their poor finishing. The summer signing got substituted after the hour mark.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 6/10
The French midfield ace managed to set-up Son who found the back of the net in the 12th minute. He worked hard for his team, but it was not enough as the Bundesliga outfit were firing on all cylinders in the second half.
CAM: Dele Alli – 6/10
The former Milton Keynes Dons talent managed to create a couple of decent opportunities in the first half. However, his impact on the game faded as the contest went on, so he was replaced by Lucas Moura in the second half.
ST: Heung-Min Son – 6/10
The South-Korean scored one goal but should have netted more during the encounter. His finishing let him down tonight.
ST: Harry Kane – 6/10
The English striker struggled to get himself more involved in the game. However, he kept his calm to score a penalty which gave Spurs some hope of a comeback before it all went downhill in the final quarter of the clash.
Substitutes:
CM: Christian Eriksen – 4/10
The Dane managed to work Neuer in the Bayern goal. However, he didn’t do much else after coming off the bench.
RM: Lucas Moura – 4/10
The Brazilian speedster failed to make any meaningful contributions in the final third.
CAM: Erik Lamela – N/A
He did not have enough time to make an impact on the field.
