Arsenal travelled to Old Trafford to clash heads with Manchester United earlier tonight hoping to secure a victory on the road. The Gunners settled into the game early on but failed to create too many meaningful chances going forward. The Red Devils began to dominate more possession and grew stronger as the half wore off. The home team grabbed the lead in the 45th minute when Scott McTominay scored with a spectacular strike.
However, the North London outfit managed to score the equaliser in the 58th minute when Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang found the back of the net from close range. Both teams battled hard but couldn’t add to their goal tally as the contest finished 1-1 after the full-time whistle.
Let’s take a look at how each Arsenal player performed during the match against the Red Devils.
GK: Bernd Leno – 7/10
The Gunners keeper made a few important saves to make sure that he didn’t concede more than one goal during the game. However, he will be disappointed not to have kept a clean sheet tonight.
RB: Calum Chambers – 6/10
The English defensive ace tried to link-up play with others in the opposition half. However, he found life difficult on the defensive end when trying to keep up with Man United’s Daniel James.
CB: Sokratis Papastathopoulos – 6/10
The Greek defender was a solid presence and managed to cope with Marcus Rashford’s threat well during the encounter.
CB: David Luiz – 6/10
The Brazilian centre-back passed the ball accurately and did enough defensively to restrict the Red Devils to just one goal.
LB: Sead Kolasinac – 6/10
The full-back tried his best to be a decent outlet for Arsenal down the left flank. However, the quality of his final delivery was poor going forward.
CM: Lucas Torreira – 5/10
The Uruguayan talent lost a lot of aerial duels and got dominated by the Man United midfielders. He also missed a decent chance to score in the second half before being replaced by Emery.
CM: Granit Xhaka – 4/10
The Swiss international had another underwhelming game as the Arsenal captain. He lacked pace and didn’t recover in time to help out his teammates in the lead-up to McTominay’s goal just before half-time.
CM: Matteo Guendouzi – 6/10
The French youngster worked his socks off but didn’t have the quality required to break down the Red Devils defence inside the Theatre of Dreams.
RW: Nicolas Pepe – 4/10
The Ivory Coast prospect never looked like he had a goal in him tonight. He is turning out to be a disappointing signing as he is struggling to deal with the physicality and high intensity of Premier League football.
ST: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – 7/10
The Gabonese forward was not as effective when linking up play with his teammates on the counter. However, he kept his calm to score the equaliser for the Gunners with a brilliant chipped finish in the second half.
LW: Bukayo Saka – 6.5/10
The Arsenal rising star was full of energy and enthusiasm down the left-wing. However, he lacked the cutting edge in the final third.
Substitutes:
CAM: Daniel Ceballos – 5/10
He didn’t create enough opportunities after coming on to play for most of the second half.
RW: Reiss Nelson – 5/10
The Arsenal starlet got a shot away in the dying embers of the contest, but he ended up miscuing the attempt.
CM: Joe Willock – 6/10
Willock made an excellent driving run towards the latter stages of the encounter.
