Leeds United continue to delight and frustrate in equal measure this season as they have played some good football, but their inability to finish off moves continue to haunt them. They still reign supreme on the top of the table but only on goal difference. After a disappointing draw against Derby County, the club will travel to the Valley to take on Charlton Atheltic.
The Addicks started their season well, but they have now suffered back to back defeats. Bielsa will look to pile more pressure on them, but there are some areas where he would like his side to improve upon. Charlton are currently 8th on the table, but they are just three points from the top of the table so Lee Bowyer will see this game as an opportunity to jump up a few places.
Team News: Adam Forshaw is likely to be a doubt for this tie again. Luke Ayling should be back available, and he could be in contention to start in the matchday squad after his ankle injury. Pablo Hernandez was substituted in the second half against the Rams, but it wasn’t because of any injury troubles. Tyler Roberts should also be included in the matchday squad after missing the start of the campaign.
4-1-4-1 Leeds United Predicted Lineup Vs Charlton Athletic
Formation (4-1-4-1)
Defence
Kiko Casilla will continue to start in goal. He doesn’t get much to do, but he would be frustrated that his side is unable to keep a cleansheet. Brighton youngster Ben White will start in defence who continues to impress. Captain Liam Cooper should partner him at the back.
Stuart Dallas has been terrific so far this season so we don’t see Ayling getting back into the starting eleven even though he might be available for selection. Ezgjan Alioksi is likely to start ahead of Barry Douglas at left-back.
Midfield
Kalvin Phillips will start in a deep role in midfield. Jamie Shackleton is expected to deputise for Forshaw once again in the middle. The more experienced Mateusz Klich should partner him. Last game’s penalty miss will be looming large on the Polish midfielder’s mind, and he would look to start well in this tie to banish those blues.
Pablo Hernandez is expected to start on the right once again. Helder Costa was ineffective in the cameo against Derby so Jack Harrison might just keep his place on the left flank.
Attack
Patrick Bamford has been a significant dilemma for the Whites as he does a lot of things right on the pitch. However, a striker makes a name for the goals he scores, and Bamford has missed some decent chances of late. We think that its time to give Eddie Nketiah his first league start in this game.
