According to a recent report from the Scottish Sun, Rangers have reportedly offered Ryan Jack a new bumper deal. The midfielder has emerged as the mainstay in the middle in the last few months, and it is no surprise that Rangers are looking to secure the long term future of the Scotsman.
Ryan Jack on his future
The player hasn’t signed the extension, but he has indicated that he wants to be at Ibrox for the long term. He told BT Sport (broadcast on 22/9 from 11:45), ”To be honest, there’s no news at the minute, the club have recently spoken to my representatives. Look, I love my football here. I love playing at this club, and I’d like to stay for many more years to come.”
It’s clear as daylight that Jack sees his future with Rangers and Gerrard’s management team shouldn’t delay in getting him a new, improved deal. The midfielder has even made it to the Scotland national team and recently featured in the European qualifiers.
How has Jack emerged as a crucial player?
Midfield is one area where there is plenty of competition for places at Ibrox. Gerrard has got some naturally gifted and talented players like Glen Kamara and Joe Aribo. He also has a wily old fox in Steven Davis who has settled in well in the middle. Scott Arfield is also an option in midfield, but he has often been used on the right flank this season.
New signing Andy King is also a plausible option. Nevertheless, amid all this competition, Jack has continued to get regular minutes, and he hasn’t done much wrong in the past few months.
His energy, tenacity and perseverance make him a quality player. However, he is more than just a midfield hustler as he provides some moments of quality on the ball as well. His ability to pick out neat passes has improved, and he can carry the ball forward well from deep areas.
All in all, Jack can do everything in midfield which Gerrard could ask from his central midfielder. Hence, it is no surprise that he has emerged as a mainstay in Gerrard’s plans even though he has plenty of other worthy option as well.
The 27-year old’s current deal runs until 2021, and he deserves a new contract with an increment in the wages as well. Jack moved to Ibrox on a free transfer in 2017, and not many would have imagined that he would step up like this in the last few years. He has now got the experience and the ability to help Rangers to challenge Celtic’s monopoly in Scottish football.
